Sorry all, the slow start, 1st 2 sets were my fault. I was in the air and couldnt talk to Cook, got on ground and home for start of 3rd, 3 straight bitches. Big win, and now the Cardinal, Cook will have a plan, and Sn will go down.

Well, I was with Batman fighting for Justice. Cook forgot to put my light in the sky. It happens.

And she is tied for the team high in kills. Imagine if she didn’t have a few of those really bad swings earlier
Lexi did good offensively but she wouldn't need that many kills if she didnt cost us so many points defensively. Almost everytime she touched the ball other than a spike it cost us a point and got the other girls out of rhythm. She pulled through and we won so it's all good.

If Huskers do not play better Saturday they will be runners-up! If Illinois does not come back to earth sets 3-5 the Husker Ladies would be on their way home right now!

Have you shared these insights with John Cook?

More like Nebraska came alive those last three sets, so they're not on their way home.

This thread is funny and typical of this board: when things are going bad... they are being out-coached, time for Cook to retire! When things are going good... great coaching, hope Cook never retires!

“Blame the coach” guy is incredibly irritating. Sometimes coaches make mistakes, but sometimes other teams are just better and it doesn’t matter who is coaching.

Have posters actually criticized Cook? There are a few coaches on this planet whose results put them beyond reproach, and he's one of them.

Agree with the first part. Nebraska played good most of the first set but wet the bed down the stretch. Gave the game away.

Second set Nebraska played terrible. They then fought extremely hard for the third, found their rhythm, made some blocks and improved their defense, and got the set. Same with set 4. Did Illinois come back to earth? Maybe. But Nebraska definitely picked up their game. That is undeniable.

Need to bring their A game Saturday night.

True. Tamas and his team gave us fits all night. But especially sets 1&2. The rest of the game was basically a draw. Illinois was their own worst enemy in the final sets. That's VB. Streaks and runs.....and thank goodness for instant replay.

NU looked like the team that lost 5 of7 during sets 1&2. Out of system, poor serve/receive resulting in subpar setting which translates into hitting errors or off speed kills. When things aren't working it can be ugly. We cleaned it up, but illinois also came off their high.

Not complaining about coaching, but can't they figure out a rotation to keep Stivrins in the line-up a little more?

She doesn't play the back row very well. Let me rephrase that. We have defensive specialists that are better in the back row.

BUT, when she's in there, we need to utilize her better. Feed the beast

Illinois did not have a serving error the first two sets. They were hitting .455. Neb stepped up and made it somewhat harder to make easy passes but if Illinois plays the way they did in sets one and two it is doubtful that the Huskers could have beaten them. Example in set five Illinois had bad serves on all three of their first attempts. They had several mishits ending set four and starting set five. What I am saying is that if Illinois had played just as well all night as they did in sets one and two it is doubtful Neb could have beaten them. If you want to disagree so be it.

No one is contradicting you. However, illinois became human. Pretty hard to keep up the stats they had in the first 2. No service errors is fantastic especially for how aggressive they were serving.

I guess the flip would be, for the sake of argument, if we would have played like we did the last three sets WE SWEEP. But we didn't. It is what it is. Good game. Illinois is a formidable opponent with a good Coach and previous coach. That's why we split this year during conference play

I'm too lazy to review the thread, but I recall one post about the student outcoaching the master and from what I can tell he was when the post was made. There was another post about getting the Illinois coach WHEN Cook retired, not that he SHOULD retire. All in all we were amped up in the heat of the game like normal, but I didn't perceive this thread as anywhere near the fire Riley/Diaco/Banker threads we all know and love.

I just moved back to Lincoln and the move has had some major issues. Then the furnace in the new house conked out yesterday. I had a feeling it would be a tight game and decided I didn't need the stress, plus I was beat from getting up at 4:00 in the morning. So I didn't watch it. Part of me is glad, as I probably would have been more of a stressed out wreck after set 2, but another part of me wishes I had stayed up to watch.

You missed an amazing comeback. They were honestly playing very sloppy the first 2 sets. Passing was atrocious. I would suspect everyone watching thought we were done for. I know I did.

Yeah, I never said it was time for Cook to retire. I hope he can coach here another 10 years, though it wouldn't surprise me if he hangs it up soon. And when he does, I hope Tamas is the replacement, as he's done a brilliant job at Illinois, taking them to the Final Four in only his 2nd year there, and he's only 37 years. He had his team well-prepared and they schooled us bad in the first two sets.

Credit to Cook and the team for making the adjustments and plays when it mattered. If not for all the service errors in the last set, Illinois probably wins the match.

The service errors were a result of how aggressive Illinois was serving Nebraska. The reason they did well early was their serving. When the pressure turned up and Nebraska started passing better, Illinois was pressing to get Nebraska out of system and it resulted in serivcr errors. Illinois didn’t give it away.

Amazing that we beat the #3 national seed and all you experts know more than John Cook. We are playing two seniors and zero juniors. Give it a rest. I’m guessing most of you “experts” have never played a competitive volleyball match in your life.
Played ALOT of volleyball at church youth group back in the day... does that qualify?
