This email was forwarded to me yesterday. I showed my 8 year old son and I'll quote his entire response here: "Cringe."

Fall is the most wonderful time of the year to be a Grove Squirrel!

Dear Ole Miss Family:
Do you ever wish you could live in the Ole Miss Grove? Well, I do. Just me and a few hundred of my friends and family.
I don’t have to tell you – the Grove is an amazing home for a squirrel like me. Oak trees, green grass, free concerts, students leaving snacks unattended while they study, and of course, on some special days in the fall, the biggest outdoor picnics a squirrel has ever seen.
It’s the kind of place a squirrel never wants to leave, and I hear you humans feel the same way. Well, I’m here to help.
My friend who posts about me on the university’s social media named me Dennis the Grove Squirrel. But did you know, of all my squirrel friends and family, I’m the only one with a name? Hundreds, maybe thousands of us scamper around, nameless!
So, I have a great idea. To help you be in the Grove every day like us, you can name a Grove squirrel after yourself, your friends, your family – almost anyone.
Here’s how it works: For a limited time this fall, in exchange for a $10 gift to the university, you get to name a Grove squirrel anything you want (keep it clean, please), and my friend will give you a certificate with your Grove squirrel’s name.
You can name a Grove squirrel for every Ole Miss fan in your life and send them their certificates!
But the best part is what your gift can do. Ole Miss will use your donation to award scholarships to students, fund groundbreaking research and maintain our beautiful campus – including my home, the Grove. This is all a bit of lighthearted fun, but your contributions make a serious impact on the lives of students and leave a lasting legacy on campus.
After you name your squirrel, come visit us in the Grove! You can walk around and call your squirrel’s name. We don’t come when we’re called – we’re not dogs, you know – but have fun anyway. And don’t forget the snacks!
See you in the Grove!
Dennis the Grove Squirrel

Can't be real. I mean I believe it is, but I can't believe it is. Except it is them, so yeah, I believe it.

Oh it's real. Imagine how many poor squirrels are running around out there now with names like "Asher" and "Blaine".

Those squirrels are in better shape than all the ones running around with names like Nathan Bedford Forrest, General Lee, George Pickett, etc.

You just can’t make this stuff up.

Just when you think they have hit the bottom of marketing creativity, they come up
With something more ignorant.

They deserve the criticism they receive

Definitely real. I got that email and blame it on Alex McDaniel's appeal to MSU fans to donate to Ole Miss's band fund.

I later donated to the Famous Maroon Band too.

On a related note, for a small $100 donation to the patdog retirement fund, you can name one of the squirrels in my back yard. And you don’t even have to keep it clean. PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay & Zelle are all accepted. So donate to this worthy cause today.
