Says every week is going to be a challenge for the offense. He has a lot of faith in Barry Odom to do better than LSU did last week.

Well, he was right on the money with his prediction of how we did against LSU, so I guess it's time to worry.**

People like Herbstreit act like Leach has never played against a zone before or that Washington's film has been kept in a secret vault will finally undo him when it's released to the public.

Is it just me or has there been very little talk about the SEC? It seems we’ve spent 20 minutes talking about WV and Baylor. Is the couch burning crowd a coveted demographic?

That’s my thinking. Leach has faced every defense possible, and has always had success. Obviously we won’t pass for 600 every game, but geez.

Heard Doug Matthews on the radio this morning say defensive guys will be calling Washington defensive guys to learn how to stop this offense. Guess he is unaware of the talent gap between those two schools.

There are talent gaps in the SEC, in case you didn’t notice. Makes sense to brainstorm with someone who has actually stopped it.

The talent gap between WSU and Washington is 3x bigger than the gap between state and bama, in case you didn’t know.

That’s like southern miss calling bama for a game plan against UAB.

for real. You need to also look at the talent gap between Washington St and Washington and the other teams that stopped them. It isn’t even close. Leach has never EVER had the talent on both sides of the ball that he has right now.

We won’t learn much on the talent gap tonight. MSU is on the right side of the talent gap against Arkansas. I’m super interested in our games against Georgia and Auburn. They are traditionally strong defensive teams who recruit better than us. LSU is also in that category, but if we do well against those 2 it is a trend not just a one time event, or as Herbstreit likes to say a fluke.

Play a soft zone and then we just Run block and hand it to one of the best RB’s in the SEC.
Will we put up 640 yds of O today, didn’t know, don’t think so but I do think we run more and score a whole lot!
And get the W

Define struggle. Costello only throws for 400 yards today? Kylin only has 90 yards receiving? I honestly don't understand why some of ya'll get so triggered on what the Herbstreits and Finebaum's of the world have to say about us. 17'em. Just win baby and let the rest sort itself out.

Jordan Rogers just said Costello throwing for 800 today. It was tongue in cheek but still funny to hear.

I feel pretty sure we will get 600 yards passing more times than not this season. If we don't we won't be winning. But I guess if they all drop in coverage it might be 400 passing and 200 rushing. But honestly it would probly be more shuffle passes and dump offs instead of hand offs

It is not obvious that we couldn't pass for 600 more. Imagine if we did. The nation would go crazy, even against Ark

I’m not saying we can’t lose to Arkansas, because we could for sure. But in how many of those 7 years of the Apple Cup could Leach run draws with a back as good as Kylin Hill?

We should be able to find holes in the zone but probably won’t have as many YAC which will translate into less total passing yards. We should get more yards running and have more running plays than last week which will also mean less passing yards but none of that means our offense will not be effective.

Whether it’s zone or man, it doesn’t matter, leach knows the other teams weakest personnel and try to gain favorable matchups.

The X factor is KJ making precise throws. If he is bad off at any time, the chances to lose grows.

Well, since his description of this offense is that he wants to throw to open grass, the zone will set up nicely for 5 receivers in the pattern/scheme. If they play zone, there will be open receivers. If they play press man, they will have defenders with their backs to this ball running away from the intended target who’s job it is to win the ball.

Only one way to shut them up.

- A few things. Feels bad for LSU players? Pelini has faced Leach 3 times before and had full access Wazzou tape. What a stupid comment.

- Who feeds this BS to Herbie. Is true LSU for recruiting purposes?

I think you’ll see a better gameplan today against the offense and it will be a tighter game. You can get upset at Kirk but he’s not wrong.

Just like LSU fans this week saying there was no tape to watch on State. Really? If Pelini didn't watch lots of tape, he should be fired.

Arkansas isn't good. LSU tried to play zone Some and it didn't matter. I'm trying to figure out why people think Leach hasn't seen zone before. He'll, he even said he had prepared for it last week.

Those people are morons. O talked about this. They had tape on KJ, tape on WSU, and tape on us that they watched.

A better game plan, sure. But too many commentators act like it's easy to just shut Leach down, which it obviously isn't.

I’m not sure why everyone thinks there is some simple, easy formula to stopping this offense, and that once everyone in the SEC watches some UW film, then we might as well forfeit. The air raid is an offensive system, just like any other offensive system. There are ways to slow it down defensively, just like any other offense. But just like any offense, if you have the right talent and execute, you’re going to have a certain degree of success.

UW did what they did because they were able to get pressure and dominate the box with four men or fewer. Then their secondary kept everything in front of them and gang tackled. If our OL can hold up when they outnumber the defenders in the box, we will not be “stopped.” Slowed downs sometimes- but not outright stopped as long as our QB/WRs execute.

For what it’s worth, there are absolutely ZERO offensive systems in existence that are successful if the defense dominates the box with four men or fewer. Oregon and Stanford saw what UW did against WSU for years, and Leach still went 8-2 against those teams his last five years at WSU.

Yeah it’s ridiculous how dismissive people are being right now. Dude has been leading the country in passing every year for 25 years and all of a sudden it’s just as simple as switching to zone to stop it.

If stopping the air raid is so easy, why did Leach dominate Oregon and Stanford his last five years in the Pac 12? Both of those teams had huge talent advantages against WSU, and both teams had piles of Apple Cup film to look at.

People say “just do what UW did,” but it’s not that simple. You have to have the horses up front, and you have to execute a style of defense that is totally different from what you normally run. If our OL and Kylin can hold up, then that famous UW strategy won’t work so good.

UW got turnovers. Lots of turnovers. Any team loses with too many turnovers.

Another thing I forgot to mention. Here are how many turnovers UW forced in the last seven Apple Cups. Bear in mind that WSU wasn’t really “built” until 2015.

2013- 2
2014- 3
2015- 7
2016- 4
2017- 4
2018- 2 (this game was played in a snowstorm)
2019- 3

Interestingly, WSU actually moved the ball somewhat okay on UW. The snowstorm game in 2018 was the only time WSU didn’t break 300 yards of offense. They just didn’t have many explosive plays and turned it over every other possession.

We’ll see how this offense looks going forward. I don’t think anyone expects 600+ yards passing every game. But to dismiss 18+ seasons of super high levels of production at really bad P5 programs is very short sighted.
