Lots of nostalgia in this thread. Elijah Blue and Joker's Ride were both legit. My Ole Miss buddy married the Cherry Bomb front woman, they will get a kick out of the mention on sixpack. Mookie was ubiquitous in those days, he played everywhere with everybody. I can't remember every band he was in but Brick Factory and Mudfoot both come to mind. I wandered into the Ruby Tuesday at Leigh Mall in Columbus one night and there he was. He was tearing it up as usual.
Long shot here, but does anyone remember the name of that bunch that was always at Flo and Eddies, guaranteed to cover The Who 4-5 times every show? They were from Inverness, I remember that specifically.

Law of Nature was good. I thought they would get big, but it never happened. Music is a funny biz.
Bill Cooke. Remember him playing at Pettys BBQ when they started having music there on Sunday nights. He called his group Pot Liquor. And the other bunch that played there was called Mr. Bigum. Giant dude in overalls sitting in a chair on lead guitar.
That's him. There was another professor, Clay I think, that played harp with this badass dude last name of Swain. They were fun.
Hogleg every Thursday night with Chapman on the keys.

Rum drunks every Halloween. Del nearly every other night solo.
Freeworld is still the best band who plays locally (about quarterly). They are still fantastic, but the lineup from that era, with Brian overstreet on guitar was en 17n Fuego.

No -- y'all are forgetting some, too: Mac and Del
Uncle Tupelo and, later, Son Volt came to Starkville a couple of times -- they played Mulligans about as often as Drivin' N Cryin' did: every other year or so. Better Than Ezra, however, did come to Starkville quite a bit before they really hit it big. They played fraternity parties and at Mulligans on a pretty regular basis.
Y'all are forgetting the two who are no longer with us: Mac Banks and Del Rendon. The stage at Dave's is named after Del.
Regarding some of the others mentioned: Chapman and Jennifer Welch (Law of Nature) got married and are living in Texas -- Chapman is a professor at Rice University. They still do a reunion show every year. Blue Mountain - Cary Hudson is still touring. He is no longer touring with Blue Mountain, though - their last show as a band was at Chickie Wah Wah in New Orleans 4 or 5 years ago. He is, however, still playing a lot of the old BM stuff. He is touring with a fiddle player named Katrina Miller. Laurie Stirratt (bass for BM) is still playing around Oxford, and Cary is based out of New Orleans. Beanland broke up in '94 when JoJo left to play with WSP. The Kudzu Kings are still around, as well - they play a reunion show or three every year.

Chapman was more interested in production and composing, rather than performing. He has "hit it big" -- just not in the way you are thinking.
Remember The Apple Dumplin' Gang? Champan had some fantastic and hilarious songs. He wouldn't regularly play them, but occasionally, he'd come out between LoN sets and wow the crowd with his crudeness.
Reading this thread makes me assume I served a whole lot of you some drinks at the Tavern during those years.
How about ZOSO. Zeppelin cover band that was awesome. They werent on “the circuit” but played Starkville a few times.

I know the lead singer for ZOSO - our sons have been friends since kindergarten. Great guy. We coached a baseball team together one year.
Can't believe no one has mentioned Dash Rip Rock - but I guess that was more early 90s then late 90s.
Chapman also had another offshoot called Tater Junction. Hogleg was the best. Young Agent Jones stuck around for awhile but were never my favorite.
Jupiter 17'n Coyote is a name I haven't heard since I left Starkville.
I feel like Beanland only existed on bootleg cd's and on this documentary. Did they have albums?
