Living out of state now, but would appreciate someone explaining what is going on with the soccer program. Just saw the final score against Elon.

Here is a thread “Rutgers men’s soccer . . . Donigan” that gets into it pretty deeply. But it’s basically a broken program with a head coach who seems to have lost it. Supposedly the AD will address the situation after this season? We shall see when and how. Losing 8-1 tonight kind of turns up the heat on the situation.

I was at the game and have watched all but the second half of the game Friday night. They are a terribly coached team with no midfield, no shape/structure, and average talent at most positions.

I’m new to the program so I can’t speak about any of Donigan’s other teams but they literally look like 11 guys that just met each other out on the field.

Yep. I’ve never seen any semblance of creativity in the middle.

I have no idea what formation they’re out there trying to play half the time. It’s somewhere between a 4-5-1 and 4-3-3 but their spacing is bad and they’re not good enough technically. Most of the time a midfielder receives the ball and his only option is to pass out wide to the full backs. The midfielders are spaced too far apart and don’t provide an outlet for one another. When they do the pass is usually too late or off target.

That's the way it has been- 11 strangers.

I don't like to see people lose their jobs but with all the talent in New Jersey, how do we get creamee by a little private school in North Carolina that no one heard of until 10 years ago. Our recruiting budget could be half a tank of gas. There must be someone that knows the area who can improve the situation. Maybe a local head coach at a lower school, maybe a respected high school coach at a successful program, maybe someone e from the Philadelphia Union, former Rutgers players, somebody must be out there.

Completely new here (joined after the blow out with Elon.) So painful to watch!!! Agreed that the program needs to be completely rebuilt as this point!! I recently read an article on Top Drawer Soccer about the top assistant head coaches in the country. This guy - Mike Miller - from East Brunswick was mentioned and has has popped up a couple of times - supposedly known for his recruiting skills and turning programs around. Not sure if he'd be interested though...I heard from my buddy that he might be the next Head Coach at UCONN. Here's his bio for anyone interested. https://uconnhuskies.com/coaches.aspx?rc=390&path=msoc

That would be ironic to have Miller come from uconn to Rutgers as I think Donigan previously played at uconn. Anyhow, yes, his is the kind of young, dynamic, nice resume type profile the program needs.

This is a wasted year that should not be happening. Everyone knew he should have been fired last year. This is what sets teams back. Now the new coach has an even bigger mountain to climb. Rutgers loves letting coaches stick around well after the writing is on the wall.

The other final when Donigan was hired was Rob McCourt; believe he's still coaching at Monmouth. Might be time to see if he's interested. Similar pedigree to the women's coach.
