Her ratings sucked.
She was tanking at NBC from day 1. Her attempt to reinvent herself as sort of Oprah-esque talk show host bombed. That comment was an excuse to force her out, but the firing wasn't about the comment.

While true it is ******** that the network used that as an excuse instead of admitting they made a mistake in hiring her or how they produced her shows becasue firing someone over racial charges like that can be career killing.

I don't disagree. I suspect NBC got some financial gain in letting her go for cause rather than just letting her go.
