The Pythons were the unparalleled masters of hilariously absurd dialogue.

“It’s not a question of where he grips it!”

Some of the most intelligent comedy of the last century — the “witch” scene is a wonderful critique of medieval thomist reasoning, the “repressed” scene as a great parody of the European left of the 70s (though maybe not quite as good as the pjf/pfj/jpf scene from life of Brian), the whole reminder of the Norman history via the French castle, the text of the book of armaments. On and on.

And the Castle Anthrax scene was a perfect excuse to make blowjob jokes.

Agree, Lucas, it’s just nonstop

I love the Tim the Enchanter and rabbit scene

“And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, 'O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits. in thy mercy' And the Lord did grin. And the people did feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats, and large chu...”

Well, as Cleese often said, there’s nothing particularly wrong with lowbrow humor either

(Personally, I always thought of that scene as more of a lampooning of medieval concepts of virtue).

While life of Bryan is on my mind, I’ll also note that the “cheesemakers” scene is as good a critique of Originalism as you’ll find anywhere, that the opening call out of “myrrh” says what everyone’s always been thinking, that the crowds following Brian at the end cheekily calls out modern reinterpretive theology, the Romans discussion is a wonderful reminder on perspective.
Again on and on, but for my money Brian is even better than the grail.

How do you analyze the scene with the rabbit.
“We can’t risk another frontal assault, that rabbit is dynamite”! A condemnation of the folly of Dieppe or Galipoli?

Mostly a setup to make fun of the scots.

But..."that rabbit is dynamite" is one of the best lines of the movies, because it is so wildly out of time and place with the setting.
