What's the story, or history behind Millard North and the athletic tape around the helmet?

Also, I don't see Humphrey/ Lindsey Holy Family represented....

I may have part of this wrong, but one year when Millard North was in the finals the TV sideline reporter commented about how at one time (maybe when Petito was first there) they had trouble with chinstraps coming unbuttoned so they started putting tape over them and it became a tradition.
