Most of the guys just released will likely get good jobs in January. Beckton, Fisher and Dawson will get hired. Ruud I’m not sure what he does. IMO the biggest problem for our assistants was the dysfunction of the guy running the program.
Anyone else remember when Held's name was briefly mentioned for the Kansas HC job, and a couple of posters here said he should turn it down because KU was a dumpster fire?

UNK competed well with the Dakota schools back in the day. Expanding our walk on program hasn’t helped them.
I don’t think Held was ever a serious candidate for KU’s job. At that time the guy they should have hired was Beck. With his relationships in Texas he would have recruited well there.
You're right - he wasn't. But the notion that he should turn down a Power 5 HC job made me laugh out loud.

Didnt UNK have their first winning record in like 20 years last year? I understand that small schools need to offer athletics to keep their enrollment numbers up but I have always found small time college sports so cringry.
UNK had a long history of athletics. IMO our regents have kind of screwed them over and I don’t have a dog in the fight. I hope Held can revive them.

Josh Lynn did an excellent job of turning this team around after the Darrell Morris regime wound down. I'm not sure how Ryan is going to do in Kearney. I helped him quite a bit when he first arrived in Florence becoming familiar with the high schools in the Huntsville and Birmingham area as that's an area I used to cover.
Don’t blame Morris, you’re forgetting about Josh Lambert spent 2 years after Morris and won 1 game in 2 seasons. Morris was operating on RMAC budget when they moved to MIAA. Would be like sunbelt team moving to SEC
The MIAA is essentially the SEC of Div. II football....UNK has held their own the last few seasons under Coach Lynn's watch...he ran an option offense with a Harlan Hill finalist (Div II Heisman) at QB...will be interesting to see what direction Coach Held takes it...is it DI excitement? No...is it a point of pride for Kearney and much of central Nebraska? Yep

There was never any “beating the crap out of them”. Matt Strand was a great QB. It was fun going to those games both teams would have 60ish pass attempts! Those 2 teams were on the cutting edge of what was the air raid offense 25 years ago.
