Cats Dad- how is your son’s health?

Mrs. Brown, how is Jalen doing?

We have heard on Clayton, but how is Nate Hall (ya’ll) progressing? JR Pace?

If anyone has health updates, it would be much appreciated :)

Or email me at [email protected]

Jalen's rehab is coming along very well and he is hopeful for a full recovery by summer, so he is 100% for Fall Camp - it was obviously a very serious injury, but he has been putting in the work and even changed his diet to aid in his recovery/rehab - he is very determined

Thanks Steelerchic :) Hoping the recovery continues to go well for not just a good football player, but by many reports a great young man and a very important part of our beloved program.

Forgive me if this is over the line (and feel free to just ignore the question if so), but... is Jalen able to apply for a medical redshirt after using the grad transfer rule? If so, does he plan to apply?

He can still apply for the medical 6th year, even with the grad transfer - it requires a showing that his first season he sat out (redshirt during his first season), was based on injury as well; he was injured during fall camp that year, shortly after being informed he was on pace to play. He was then not cleared to even participate in anything physical until several games (I believe it was 6) into the season. So, the evidence is in his favor on that front.

However, the decision to apply for the medical 6th year won't need to be made until the end of this upcoming season.

Jango is doing very well. He has been pretty much full contact already in spring practice. He should be 100% ready this camp to compete for the Sam and Will backer positions. Hopefully they haven't started his contact too early and he stays healthy throughout Spring practice. He is very fast this year. They had him competing with the runningbacks and wide receivers during winning edge. Thanks for asking about him..

Appreciate the clear and forthright response. Fingers crossed that he has a great, healthy 2018 and really "pushes" the decision.

Thank you Gocatsgo2003. We have a very talented group. They should all push each other. Our defense should be very good.

Many thanks to parents who are willing let us obsess about their children. I hope you take it as a compliment to their great dedication, and we all have an appreciation for that part but the dark underbelly to it all is that their success "feels" like our success and we want to feel good. The selfish part is we don't have to do any of the work. We wish all the guys the best. So grateful for their love of the game.

Well said Deeringfish. I think it just goes to speak of the true “family” atmosphere that Gary Barnett established, Coach Walk continued, and Coach Fitz has enhanced even further. I speak for all those that agree with me that we are so very proud of our “boys” and I (with others) am grateful for the sacrifices that you and they have made/are making and wish you all the success you have worked for. Bless you with health and happiness and LET’S GO ‘CATS!

Full contact already? Seems a bit soon for that shoulder.

I love that my son is part of this family. My son has been given this opportunity because of the fans. If there weren't fans like you all, there would be no football scholarships. As tough as it is to balance school and football, it is worth it. I appreciate you all and I know my son does. There is nothing we want more than to bring honor and glory to you all, our program, and our University. I personally thank you all for your support and dedication to our sons and this program. It is an honor to be a part of the Wildcat family.

Not a fan of it, I know Jango isn't either I wish they would at least wait till after Spring break. That gives him four more weeks to strengthen the muscles around the shoulder to give it more stability.

Did they put in staples or screws?

And as in any family, thanks for putting up with our occasional bickering among ourselves. :)

He has six anchors screwed into his shoulder.
If the labrum was relatively intact and pulled off the bone, he should be in pretty good shape. Chris Carpenter had three anchors put in his shoulder, and then went on to win a Cy Young and 95 games.

Yeah, but chris carpenter did not have to tackle anyone or land on the shoulder awkwardly when he returned. Here's hoping that the healing has occurred and the anchors are secure. I'm sure the staff wouldn't let him be active if there was any suggestion of more healing to be done.

The mechanics are different, but the stress on the shoulder of throwing a baseball at a major league level is unreal.

I am hoping he has enough time to strengthen the muscles around the shoulder enough to give it stability and strength.
