I tend to agree. When you watch warm up he clearly seems to throw the tightest spirals and has the best arm strength. Probably can't run it very well but none of these guys except Oden have the athletic ability for the run game portion of the power spread system. It was ironic that Oden was not even warming up with the other QBs before the second half started.

Rettig will never play football at this level. Those close to the program know why.
Why, I am not saying he is the answer but damn they have played everyone else at the position. Right now I have no confidence the coaches QB or play calling decisions.

Why?

I mean, I have never been a Rettig person, but its pretty clear we have no one on roster capable of playing QB at this level. I have little doubt Laviano has been given a long leash because he is the only one remotely able to execute the offense. Is Rettig that much worse than the other guys we have? Just asking since you seem to know.

No, he's right. The "why" is one of those things that, when you hear it, you just kinda go... "oh. okay, then."

Please. Please please please. These other guys literally cannot hit water in the ocean. Let's put the kid in and just drop back and throw the ball. If he sucks, he sucks oh well. But the other 4 guys have had their chances and shown NOTHING
Yeah and bring the rocket in too. Move on from Rettig. There is a reason why three different staffs don't put him in .

I've been getting that impression. But no one will ever say what it is.

I guess I need to make a big donation, and then when they call me to see what they can do for me...extra parking pass, couple extra tickets to a home game... I will simply ask "What was the deal with Rettig?"

What's the secret reason? He was an inexperienced freshman with the LSU staff, and the other two staffs look lost with their personnel decisions. Give me a break, they both decided on Laviano as their starter.

There's probably an easier way. Reach out to @LeapinLou at the next home game. He will direct you to my tailgate (because apparently he's really good at that. Then you can bribe me with bourbon.

Out of curiosity, is it an injury thing (i.e. - concussions or something like that)?

Sounds like its a 'tude thing.

I could make that work. I assume walking around with a box of Fireball like we had at our tailgate today won't cut it. That thing was quite the conversation piece.

I'll have to get something classy-like. With a glass bottle and everything.

Actually, "class" would best be exemplified by a good single malt. You know, the ones that come in glass bottles and the glass bottle is inside a metal canister. That's good stuff.

Ru4 its absolutely scandalous to intimate what you have without explanation. Really low blow to do that to a kid that wears scarlet

Don't take my word for it ask LSU , Flood and Ash . Time slugs like you move on.
---
Better to say the reason then insult

There is two things obvious at this point

1) At the end of camp, both Flood and Ash thought Laviano was the best to lead the team

2) that Ash was more willing to try other quarterbacks not named Rettig, meaning that at best, Rettig is fourth string.

Original rumors during The Flood era was that Rettig was slow to learn the playbook, and I never heard a word since that anything else is the reason.

Obviously that can't be the reason anymore, some here apparently know more....

if it is anything beyond a severe lack of talent, would love to know.. if it must be a secret, so be it.

I have but you do realize that I am not the only one who feels this way. If this bothers you, you need to get over it too because if it's not me, it will be many others. Flood and Ash are both lost as their records indicate.

Using a rs fresh year and flood as the basis for anything is absurd.

Using Ash at this point in time is absurd too because his team's performance has not shown me that he is a great decision maker. However, I still believe that the jury is out on him and that he can improve as a HC in the future.

Nothing like that nor is it an injury issue. It's something that I don't think he nor his family would appreciate being talked about on the internet.

Rettig is not playing quarterback for this team. People just need to accept it. It has nothing to do with any coach's incompetence.

Was this something the program was aware of before his transfer here?

Shown nothing? Lol.. Gio comes off the bench cold, scores like a beast and you're asking about Rettig? We have our starter and the future of this team. Rettig and CL need to settle in to their new jobs cleaning Gio's cleats after the game.. it's over bro.. Rettig is out. Maybe he should look at D2?

I call bullsh@$ on the secret reason. Ash and Mehringer want a mobile QB and Rettig is the least mobile QB when compared to the players who got PT this year. I obviously don't think it's a good reason and want to see those deep passes in the offensive arsenal. Right or wrong, I still want to see him get a shot based on his performance last year.

Yes, sure seems like BS. Go back and read articles during the spring. Ash and Rettig both gave quotes that indicated Rettig was in the running. So if we are to believe "the secret reason" theory Ash lied to the media and either lied to Rettig or Rettig played along knowing he would never play.

I don't get the "playing for the future" idea of running an offense the team is not ready for now. Sort of like hiring a basketball coach who inherits a team whose tallest player is 6ft 6" but the coach insists on running his system of getting the ball down low for a high percentage shot each time down the court. How is that playing for the future? The coach's system will only work when he gets taller players and the shorter frontcourt is replaced.
