Caught the show tonite.

Alvaro was player guest...his english is so-so but seems like a real upbeat personality..none of that entitlement attitude.
Likes Iowa City and the super friendly people.
More so than his other stops in USA..like Florida and Robert morris.
He invited Dolph and Bobby to visit him in his hometown in spain.

Ben was in good spirits.
Was asked about offense and he said his best teams have 5 shooters on floor and they want to get there.
Said his defense does not change year to year but offense does depending on personnel.

Was asked about Banks possibly returning and he said they are monitoring the court case involving jucos and will await verdict, but open to it.

Was asked about sage's playing time declining and he indicated it is nothing more than matchups and how others are playing.

He mentioned that top +/- player last nite was Howard a +15.....surprising to me

That is all.

Dolph got more than his money's worth when he asked Alvaro to describe Bennett in Spanish LMAO. Dolph: "I said two sentences, not two paragraphs". :ROFLMAO:

Here's the entire 90 minutes.

Alvaro appears at the 14:50 mark; he's on for 15 minutes.

Note that Bobby shakes his head a couple times during the Alvaro interview when Gary is speaking; interesting nonverbal stuff.

Yes, Dolph can be a bit cringe worthy in some of these interviews but we all know his heart is in the right place. Just always a little nervous he will inadvertantly slip up and show his age with a inappropriate king kong-type comment trying to be funny. But all good last nite

Dolph's banter with Ben is definitely lighter than with Fran, not surprisingly, and Ben likes to jab at Dolph in jest, like he's humoring an aging uncle.

I do get the impression that Ben is not in love with all the media responsibilities at times and tries to keep his answers short and simple ...he wants to get to the task at hand asap instead

I am biased toward him as he hails from my area and in high school I played against St Marys in bb..long before Ben was born. We usually handled them.

Al is a character. Can't imagine that dude in practice and meetings, lol. I now see where Mccollum is coming from when he says we need to rein him back in sometimes

There was nothing inappropriate about Dolph’s King Kong comment. It was a big deal over nothing.

As I started reading this I was wondering what Dolphism you might throw out there and you went full faux pas with the King Kong debacle.

HOT TAKE:

It's time for Dolph to hang up the mic.
Not a hot take at all

I had the displeasure of listening to Dolph for the entirety of the Reliaquest Bowl, as I was traveling that day. He was almost impossible to listen to. The biggest problem was that he constantly tried too hard to provide commentary or color, instead of just describing the damn play. For instance, on a given play, he might talk about the blocking scheme, the quarterback’s footwork, or the defensive coverage, and not bother to tell listeners basic things, like how much yardage was gained on the play. I suppose if I was watching the game on TV (listening to the radio broadcast with the TV volume turned down) it might be OK, which makes me wonder what percentage of his listeners are doing that. I just know for folks listening with audio-only, it’s very difficult to follow the action. Dolph simply ignores basic broadcast principles.

Angerer was better, but it’s clear that Pat got the memo that his job security is dependent on kissing Dolph’s ***.

I like Dolph..he loves the hawks and has a good voice for radio but father time is undefeated..
I grew up on zabel and loved his enthusiasm for hawks but he also hit the wall.

At Iowa, we cling to our coaches, politicians, broadcasters forever...just Iowa nice?

I Love It! I Love It! I Love It!

We listened to Zabel a lot over the years, so when my Dad got older and I was traveling globally, he would call my global phone to let me know the Hawks won - using Jim's famous line. He would be so excited to call and no matter the time I was glad to hear from him. I'm smiling right now, thinking about it. They are both in Hawkeye Heaven.
