I’m biased of course, but I can’t believe there are 25 better teams in the country than Iowa.

Let’s go to Vegas!
What do you think the season records of North TX, Arizona, Virginia, and James Madison would be playing the hawk's schedule or a tough Big Ten schedule.

Do you think JMU would only have one loss playing Indy, Penn St, Oregon, and USC?

And what about the others, Zona and Virginia play in much weaker leagues than the Big 10.

Let me know.

Kind of disappointing. I think we deserved to be in the top 25.
I do also and please read my post in this thread that is right after yours and answer the question I have in there about some other teams's records

Don’t you and I agree that Iowa should be rated?

To be completely honest, I've watched bits and pieces of JMU. I don't think I can make a call on them.

North Texas would honestly maybe be where we were or a game behind. Their offense is awesome but I don't see them stopping anyone. I don't think they could compete physically with almost all the lines we have played in the Big Ten minus Rutgers. I'll give them 7-5 or 6-6

I think Arizona would finish 7-5 or 6-6. Kind of the same reasons as North Texas. Gadget QB that would give people problems. Again, offense isn't the problem. How do they win grind out games when others want to keep the ball away from you.

Virginia? I think 6-6 or 5-7 would be their ceiling. I truly believe the ACC is that bad.

No. It’s a joke. Like giving the top non P4 team a CFP spot. Just a joke.

Face it. You had a nice season, but were unable to get a signature win. Good enough to receive votes, but not enough to slip into the Top 25.

8-4 Missouri and Tennessee both in top 25. Both lost all their games vs. rated teams, just like us.
This is true. I suppose knocking Huskers on their arses doesn't carry much weight.

Uh, not exactly. ISU's ranking proved to be fool's gold. The teams Mizzou and UT lost to are all still solidly in the Top 25 and have been all year. That's the difference.

At the end of the day we're unranked because our best win is against a mediocre team.

A more discerning look at our wins (most of them being utter domination) and losses (last minute losses to great teams and ISU), however, should cause any unbiased person to judge us as one of the top 25 teams in the country.

The polls don't use that level of reasoning though. And we deserve punishment of some kind for being unable to pull any of those four games out and I can't say I'm that mad about it.

But let's go ahead and blow out our ranked bowl opponent and shove it in everyone's faces.

But...but...but...they are SEC teams

Smh

Unfortunately that's still the National perception for many.

The B1G has a strong top 3, maybe 4 or 5 then it drops off.
The SEC is 8-9 deep with good teams.

I'd love to see this Iowa team kick some SEC team's azz in the bowl game.

Unfortunately, that’s not the way rankings work.

I agree that Vegas would be a great bowl destination! However, I keep reading that it will be Tennessee in Tampa.

How do they work? Are they supposed to rate the best teams in order? The various computer rankings, I believe, all have Iowa in the top 20. These polls are guesses and are no better, and often worse, than most of us on this board could come up with.

How about Oregon and Indiana beating Iowa in the last few seconds? Didn't seem to hurt them.
They're both undefeated aside from their head-to-head.
Both played @ Kinnick, one of the toughest road games in the B1G
Indiana played a 3-1 Iowa team, Oregon played a 6-2 Iowa team. Iowa played a 3-7 MSU team.

Analogies aren't your forte

Thanks for the insight, grasshopper. And Iowa played MSU after playing all those top teams so close and Iowa's CFP chances were gone. Ever heard of a thing called a "letdown"? It's something that happens in sports, and in life, when you keep trying really hard and things don't quite work out. But letdowns, obviously, are not your strength (or forte), if you're trying to be clever.

Albany, Maine, 5 back-up qb, 3 teams that fired their coach, never left Iowa City for 5 weeks in the middle of the season. Sure Indy, Ducks, and USC were tough but lost to all 3, plus 1.
Be happy with the 8-4, it could have been much worse. And be thankful, Gronk was able to play the entire season.Without him it's 4-8 vs a schedule that in the end wasn't that difficult.
