Hawaii has a 14 day mandatory quarantine for all incoming travelers unless you go get a test upon arrival that shows you are Covid negative. Oahu has closed all bars for several weeks... if you can’t keep Covid from spiking on an island, how can you keep it from spiking here?

Hawaii gets a LOT of tourists. If nobody ever traveled to or from there, they would have no Covid issues.

I’ve said it before, one negative test means nothing. If that is their policy then that’s where the mistake is.

I think somewhere like Hawaii (or any tourist island place) would be difficult to control. I don’t think a partial shutdown would do any good. You either gotta decide to completely shut down people coming in (and completely destroy your economy) or just let people come and hope for the best. No good answer there.

What if you locked down anyone
55 or older, retired people younger than 55, those with one or more co-morbidity any age, disabled any age. Everyone else would have to work.
This would help achieve herd immunity while protecting vulnerable.

Are you speaking of Hawaii only or the whole US? Either way, ehh...

So force 100 million people to stay in their homes, a high number of them still working out of need. And then make many of the remaining adults learn new vocations to offset all the previously working older adults.
Sounds like a planly, Stanley!**

Yep... all of these under 55 that are drawing unemployment would have instant job opportunities.... I guess your solution would be to shut everything down, bankrupting the private sector?

I’ll 100% admit I don’t really have a good idea of what to do but that seems like a nightmare that couldn’t possibly be enforced. I just don’t see anyway you can draw a line in the sand like that based on age.

But like I said, I don’t have a better idea. I do know what we are doing now is not working. This half open/closed deal is not working either. Cases are going through the roof and certain businesses are bleeding cash, while unemployment is through the roof. No one can think the status quo is an option.

The thing about this thing is you can have just a few cases and everything looks good, and then it hits critical mass and explodes. If you let your guard down even a little...wham.

The cases really exploded when the Mississippi Summer heat set in and everyone came back inside and turned on the AC.

In your scenario, all those over 55 who need to keep working to pay for life would be out of work and broke within weeks to months. All you did was trade places. And thst doesnt even begin to address the job training that would be required and the lost productivity as a whole.

You post a lot of stupid ****, but this is reaching shark jumping territory. You can't seriously think that what you typed out in this thread is a viable plan.

I work in the private sector. My retirement is directly tied to the private sector. So as for guessing that I want to shut everything down and bankrupt the private sector...
