Can someone explain why in college the hash marks are still wide? they aren’t in line with the goal post like the pros

it prepares the players for the CFL.

There are many aspects of ncaa football that are incongruent with the NFL.

prior to 1991 the goal posts were over 23 ft wide in ncaa.

now they are 18 ft 6 inch wide just --same as nfl.

but the groundskeepers unions threatened to go on strike if they were forced to change the hash marks, so they have stayed the same.

i understand that, but that sure gives the field goal kicker a disadvantage in college
The original designer of the fields had his wife stolen by a college kicker - Paul “the licker kicker” Duvalate. Known for his impressive leg and laser accuracy, but it was his off the field tendencies which attracted the ladies and Rupert’s wife, Claire.

as the modern football field was being designed, Rupert Schmidt was a cornerstone of the committee and vowed forever more to make all kickers pay for acts of the Licker Kicker.

Thats what google said anyway - I’m sure its right.

I'm okay with having some differences. We don't have to constantly change the game.
