Has Cal ruined Dontaie Allen?

Allen gave zero effort when he was in the game in the first half. I’m guessing that’s why he didn’t play more in the second half. At least the rest of the team played hard..

Not to mention almost immediately dribbled one of his foot because he can’t handle the ball. I think the kid will end up being a player but he’s not yet.

Can’t believe Cal continues to put everything into Askew. Gets a technical and he sits. We make a great comeback and then Cal put him in. Then he fouls, turnover bad shot ....with. We need shoemaker I last 2 minutes put Askew back in and leaves Allen on the bench, just about through with Cal and his coaching tactics. Held off all year

I like Allen and wish he would play “a little” more, but I am getting pretty sick of fans acting like it would make any difference with this **** team and **** coaching. He pretty much sucks just as bad as the rest of this roster.

Would like to see what he looked like playing less motion oriented offense.

Exactly . Cal treats him very unfairly as compared to Askew and Boston . It’s not that Cat fans think Dontae is the ultimate answer and we would be 13-4 with him .. but just the guy equal opportunity .. was there legit reason to not play him tonight in Half two ? Because askew was playing so well ?
Did you watch the game? Did you see how Allen played in those minutes???? My 14 year old middle school child couldn't have done worse on BOTH sides of the ball. Sure Askew makes mistakes but he plays his guts out and fights. Sadly Allen doesn't have that. I'm not sure why half the fan base can't see that. It's like playing 4 on 5 when he's in there. At least it was tonight.

I can’t believe I have to say this , but it isn’t people think Allen is MJ reinvented , it just thst he might , just maybe , just possibly , be better than Devin Askew .. just maybe . But how will we ever know ? cal isn’t getting embarrassed by Allen going off again . Not gonna happen to Mr Ego
Askew has to play out of necessity. He leaves A LOT to be desired but he and Mintz are the only guys who can bring the ball up the court. Neither is a PG but they're the only two who can pretend to be.

Allen doesn’t fit in with Cal’s Dribble Drive offense because we don’t have a point guard to break down defenses, and we hardly ever play inside-out. Hence, very few open looks from three. To succeed under Cal, you must be able to drive the basket when the defense closes out in you. So far, Allen isn’t that guy.
I really like Allen and feel he would shine in somebody else’s offense.

Why do you need two ? The furious press we have been up against ? One is plenty , play Mintz and bury Askew . Not that hard ... what would we look like if the askew experiment hadn’t lasted 16 games and we ran Mintz and Allen from game 1 on at 26-30 min a game ?

The fact is anybody but askew would have made the team better.

If we played Allen that long in the backcourt, we'd be O'fer

You have to have more than one guy who can handle the ball in today's game. Askew and Mintz aren't great at it, and that's why our offense is as bad as it is, but they're the best options out of what we have. I don't want Boston, Allen, Brooks, or any of the bigs having to dribble more than they already do.

Dontaie had a great basketball IQ, he knew when to shoot and when to pass. Somehow Cal screams at him and takes him out for not taking a shot. Now he seems completely timid, forced a couple of suspect shots and hasn’t came back in the rest of the game.

Same thing i noticed. Soon as he came in he gave zero effort on defense, his man got by him and forced everyone else to collapse and they gave up the wide open 3 to the tall white guy. You can make mistakes, but you can’t play with no effort. And that was a zero effort play.

Yes he has. Dontaie shot the ball the two times he had the ball in his hands even though he had no chance but at least Cal can’t say he did not shoot when he had the ball. He should transfer to EKU and play fir Coach Hamilton who actually has plays and with Moreno and others he would flourish and have a great college career

Two months ago ... Allen can’t defend

One month ago — Allen won’t shoot

tonight — Allen can’t handle the ball

the basketball geniuses are out in full force ...

SMH .. not everyone here is totally dense , most have some degree of hoops knowledge .. then there is Cats 1 again and wood deer tick or whatever

He didn't have a great game but wasn't bad. Made a few mistakes for sure. With that said, he was better than Allen.
Allen didn’t play well, but he also doesn’t get to play through mistakes like Askew and Boston. It’s been that way the majority of the season. Boston and Askew both had sequences just as bad as Allen during his 7 minutes in the game.

Another person with a brain. The rest of these dudes that are harping for more Allen have NO CLUE. Allen doesn't play those 7 minutes he did, we might have had a chance to win.

You didn't watch the game, obviously. Instead of harping on the 7 minutes why don't you state what Allen done during those 7. He was pathetic. NO effort, NO defense, NOTHING. He was a zombie. Did you watch??????

Well, he’s screwed everything else all to hell. I don’t know why Allen would be immune.
