really? I thought this was common knowledge.. why would someone get fired for saying this? is it really insensitive? If it is, I apologize, but I don't see anything insensitive about it.

So maybe someone can explain why else the 'deep south' is such a good recruiting talent pool?

Nobody can explain it? or wants to? or is afraid to apparently..
I think your take is fine. It’s history that nobody alive had anything to do with, is it exactly correct? I’m not sure I have all the facts to say yes, everyone here is acting like you just dropped an N bomb wearing a white hood. It’s no different than stating that Wisconsin and Minnesota produce big burly Nordic Viking like lineman because their lineages come from Northern Europe ancestry.

It is fine so long as you think truth does not matter. Because his account of the slave trade is demonstrably wrong. And nobody on here has accused him of racism or of being a closeted member of the KKK. I deliberately avoided calling him a racist since I do not think he is and I do not think his theory is inherently racist. I just think his theory is wrong and provably so. It is an interesting topic --- why does the South produce so many good football players? And I think it is an important topic from a football fan perspective since if we can figure out why the South produces so many good players perhaps we can imitate that in some way in our own sport's culture here. And to that end it serves no good purpose to propose a theory that says that the South has so many good players today because of selective breeding among slaves 250-300 years ago. it simply is not true.

Why has NYC produced so many point guards?

Because they play way more football than most of the rest of the country. As someone else said (in this thread or another thread, not sure), in the south you’ve got football practices in the spring as well as the fall. Football is the lifeblood of the south. EVERYONE plays, all the time. The kids get to develop their skills a lot more and the talent rises to the top. The more you play against top talent, the more developed and skilled you become. The coaches aren’t just biology teachers doing double duty as coaches as well.

Overall, it all matters. Yes, athleticism can’t be taught, but if you are working on football from the age of 6 on, with all kinds of coaching and development, you are going to find more talent in those areas than other places.

I'm going to guess that what MJ meant is that the kid comes from the SEC talent pool down south. Recruiting this talent pool is crucial to a lot of teams' success, including ours.

The deep south, is where a very large percentage of the black population still lives, most of whom are descendents of slavery, which took the best physical specimens out of Africa.

You basically have a subset group of people now with high degrees of athletic ability producing offspring for several generations, and sure you can find talent in other areas, but not nearly as concentrated as it is in the SEC.

So in my opinion, I took that quote to mean that the kid comes from that talent pool, which is by definition kind of special.
that could be part of it, but then the south is more biblical where they don't shoot each other over gang signs or tennis shoes.
like thou shall not murder...so they probably apply themself's in a better way..except new orleans, that has become the murder capital, taking the title from st loius...but thats more historically a french area and not biblical...alot mix of rome and vudan stuff = voodoo.....

so we see from all the above it's a fallen world..
but if we hire gruden (super bowl/nfl), then have mickey (loisianna), rb coach (texas) and fisher (florida)..
working together..maybe reading calvin and luther, where the flesh is not focused on in a pagan tribalism bad way....but a 4.3 in the 40, and 500 lbs. bench presses way combined with fancy nfl pass happy ways......it could be a good thing...(after 2 decades we could make pass happy work)

He replaced Tommie Hill it seems. Hill has not been playing well at all to put it mildly. Great to see Busch evaluating his talent and playing the guys who have both athletic ability and a high football IQ. Tommie Hill does seem to have some physical ability, but his football IQ is lacking since he frequently seemed clueless in coverage.
callahan was doing a video with I think jay foremen..where they say hills talent is off the charts..
(like rename the stadium after him/off the charts)
but I seen him get burned a bit earlier this year..but he's a young guy...so maybe watching film and from the sidelines..for a lil bit will make the decision making process click more. and maybe making the d simpler will help too, I seen people post that our old dc had some crazy angle stuff going on..

As Pennsy said, Jimmy "the Greek" Snyder was fired for making comments similar to this.

I tend to agree with you on many things, but this is not one of those topics.

It may be in your best interest to just let this one go.

Yeah, just do your future self a big favor and never mention that theory again in public.

This thread went off the rails. Lol

Hartzog looks like a good athlete and he stuck with his guy.

I enjoy that Mickey is willing to pull people that aren't performing and try out an unknown commodity.

It's common sense for many programs but not something we have seen at Nebraska lately.
