Michigan is the one who folded. They filed suit to enjoin the conference.s suspension and agreed to accept the full suspension and dismiss the case. The conference was deferring to the NCAA investigation on this sign stealing issue as per their by-laws,and Michigan agreed to cooperate with this continuing investigation. Despite all the bluster Michigan spewed in their position letters to the conference about the conference not having the authority to issue such a sanction, they folded without presenting this legal position before the court. My take is that the evidence so far is so damning that public exposure of same at a public hearing would only further embarrass the school. In addition, the conference reserved its right to issue further sanctions after the NCAA completes its investigation. Bottom line: the conference did what it could do under the sportsmanship policy this season and Michigan withdrew its challenge to this sanction.
