First college football team to be honored at the White House.Simply loved the Man. Thank goodness it wasn’t Nixon or Joe would have stuck the jersey up his arse.
Field Goal went right over my head…Great day to be in Notre Dame Stadium!Beautiful tribute. For the younger generation, I point out on these clips, both practice and games, how engaged in coaching and instruction Joe was. I know many have the image of his last years, coaching from the press box. But in his prime, Joe could coach and teach as well as anyone. And we talk a lot here about clock management. Joe was a master. I always remember the 1991 game at ND, ND was number 1, tie game with about 1:30 left, PSU was content to run the ball in its own territory and punted the ball away, baiting Low Holtz that ND could not settle for a tie, and sure enough Darren Perry picks off a pass, returns it into FG range and Craig Fayak kicks the game winner at the buzzer. It was a coaching masterpiece.
The respect that everyone had who knew Joe - even just a little - but especially those who knew him well, is so inspiring!Such a good feeling to see a tribute from a great man like Keith Goganious. IMHO Keith was one of the most underrated LB in PSU history. He was a terrific player.
