The idiots went bird watching at a trash dump. Luckily you have to be in very close contact with someone that has it, to get it.

Landfills/dumps can be a good place to see a lot of different bird species. Not a very appealing place to bird, but a person might tick a few species off the life list. The specific site where they were birding really isn't relevant though because they could have encountered rodents in other places depending on where they stayed or visited. Because they both died, we may not know where the contracted it.

I don't get what's going on here.
- This is a very deadly disease
- Like COVID, this strain moves from person to person
- Unlike COVID, it requires you are exposed to droplets from the infected person as opposed to just passing through the air.
- Unlike COVID, you aren't gonna get it from someone before they are showing symptoms - which are severe meaning a healthy 20-year old with the sniffles isn't going to be walking around spreading this stuff.

Just because there were other places where they theoretically could’ve encountered rodents doesn’t mean that site “really isn’t relevant.” It’s still immensely more probable that one’s gonna encounter rats at a landfill/dump than wherever else they were that day. And those of us with common sense know that’s where it likely happened.
Personally I think one might wanna reassess his hobbies if he finds himself traveling to garbage dumps just in the hope of seeing a bird.
