Looks to me like he's getting more and more comfortable on the court. Missed his 3s so far but it's not like they were bad shots, just didn't go in. Making nice moves to the basket and finishing. Rebounding well. Almost had a fatality on that fast break throwdown. Excited for him to really hit his stride, gonna be very tough to guard when the outside shot starts to fall just a little more frequently.

He needs to pass sometimes rather than taking bad shots, but this team needs his ability to get to the rim.

Also plays good D and rebounds well. Not really anything like Briscoe. The things he does away from the ball that don't show up on the stat line people don't notice. Kids been playing well for us, people just look to complain.
He also hasn't gained 20 lbs.

Hamidou Diallo tied a career-high with 19 points. Plus 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals . :basketball::basketball: :clap:

I have been pleasantly surprised by his game

Same here. I was a little afraid he would search for his shot too much, force bad shots, play too quick etc... But he's been great. He takes a few bad shots here and there but he more than makes up for it in other facets of his game.

He works hard on both ends. He is so athletic opponents practically beg him to shoot from outside. He needs to shoot 100 3's a day after practice. He has a nice FT stroke.

PJ needs to play with as much energy as Hami.

Wait...are you saying Briscoe WASNT a good rebounder or defender? He was our best in both most nights. It was he and Bam as our rebounders and he guarded the opponents best man, sometimes even when they were 6'9.

Diallo definitely a better shooter than Briscoe.

Hard to judge the two against each other overall though as Briscoe played out of position both years.

Diallo has been a pleasant surprise to me so far. I expected him to struggle to live up to his hype and be lucky to get picked in the 2nd round.

I've been pleased with his steady progress during the season so far. I was afraid he would have horrible touch with his hands being so big. SGA showing out well too.

I'd say the biggest difference to me other than the athleticism is that Hami does what he does without being a ballstopper. He passes right away if there is nothing easy. Keeps the ball moving.

One of Diallo or Knox have to be on the court at all times. Diallo has been a very consistent scorer for us. He also is amazing at finishing at the basket.
Agreed, these two will both be lotto picks by season’s end.

Diallo is not just a good finisher he is a great finisher.

Getting him to come back and Knox to come make this UK team a legit threat to win it all.

He will have some of the most amazing dunks in UK history this year as well.

Selective memory... Briscoe was a very good player. Good defender and rebounded, very good finisher, good passer and handle. Just not a great shooter.

Hey! He was a subpar three point shooter and stepped on the baseline nine time in two years so you are a mean old meanie for injecting some sense into the hourly two minute hate!!

IB got so much hate for not being a shooter but he certainly could do everything else at a good rate, no doubt.

Hami shooting better than Lonnie Walker the supposed best shooter in the class last year.

I don't understand why Hami and Briscoe are always discussed together? I love both players, but they are nothing alike. I think Hami is a better shooter.

G next to their names and ??? (aside from a reputation for needing to improve on their shoots despite the apparent huge degree of difference of how much and how it impacts their respective ability to contribute).

Tried to guard guys that big. Didn't do a good job. Justin Jackson ate him up twice but that's not really his fault. At the time Cal couldn't sign a true SF to save his life.

I agree. I thought Diallo would chuck bad shot after bad shot trying to prove he could shoot. He has been so much more than that and has been a dynamo on the fast break. It’s almost like he is listening to Cal. He has taken really good shots to this point and found a way to really help us offensively even though every opponent plays off of him. Color me impressed.

Selective memory... Briscoe was a very good player. Good defender and rebounded, very good finisher, good passer and handle. Just not a great shooter.
Briscoes biggest problem came when he had to guard elite and prototypical small forwards. He just wasn’t big enough, even though I thought he was a good player. He did a lot of the small things that helped a team. I just think Diallo’s elite athleticism and size will allow him to match up favorably against the best teams. This bodes well for Kentucky going forward. There is a difference from studding out against Auburn and doing it against the Kansas’ of the world. I like this teams ability to match up roster wise with most anyone. No glaring weaknesses quickness or size wise anywhere.
