To expand on my thoughts, it's a great step towards an attractive 2027-28 home schedule, with Alabama and the always popular Rutgers game already in the OOC portion. Add the best draws of the Big East (UConn, Nova, St. John's) and you've got the start of a schedule that creates much better value for a season ticket holder than we've seen in recent years. Replace the cupcakes with name opponents, add a blockbuster like this one when you can, don't get too aggressive with ticket pricing until you really have the leverage to (sustainable growth > one time cash grab), and don't be surprised when the seats start filling up a lot more often.Great to add a plus value game to the 27 schedule
Obviously hope to get the return game, but with the amount of money they've got, I think we'd make out pretty well just playing there as a buy game also.Little skeptical on home and homes where we are getting the second game at home. As we’ve seen, a lot can happen before 2027.
That said, good idea. Just seems too good to be true that Alabama would return to the Rock
So we should schedule Wagner 35 times. Got it. What a ridiculous mindset.Hard pass. We’re a feeder program tor teams like Bama. I think Oats is as sleezy as it gets and this is a recruiting opportunity for him.
Tracey McGrady now on the Wagner staff as strategic advisor. Better off scheduling FDU.So we should schedule Wagner 35 times. Got it. What a ridiculous mindset.
College basketball is sleazy, probably it is a recruiting opportunity for Bama to come to NJ/NY area, why would we care? Would you rather they play someone else at MSG/Barclays or the Rock and we play FDU? People just find anything to complain about, we honestly need another one of these type matchups.Hard pass. We’re a feeder program tor teams like Bama. I think Oats is as sleezy as it gets and this is a recruiting opportunity for him.
No just schedule against less sleazeSo we should schedule Wagner 35 times. Got it. What a ridiculous mindset.
Because they’re recruiting our current roster not HS players.College basketball is sleazy, probably it is a recruiting opportunity for Bama to come to NJ/NY area, why would we care? Yep that’s it, Oates decided 2 years in advance that he was going to travel to play in NJ to recruit players from our roster that do not exist yet? He could recruit our future players if he was interested a lot easier than that in current era or basketball. And not sure playing us would give him an advantage recruiting our players away.Because they’re recruiting our current roster not HS players.
You’re right. The coaches we don’t play against will never see our players or possibly be interested in them.. I wonder how Ole Miss has been doing it, we haven’t even played them. better not tell them about game tapes or social media highlights. No just schedule against less sleaze
It’s one thing to lose players naturally it’s another to go against someone who is going to be working the phone lines in November and convincing kids he may want seton hall isn’t right for them with 4 months to go in the season. You’re right. Wow, what an L of a post and follow up.
Just stop already. Nobody agrees with you. It’s one thing to lose players naturally it’s another to go against someone who is going to be working the phone lines in November and convincing kids he may want seton hall isn’t right for them with 4 months to go in the season.
If you can’t see the difference that explains a lot.
By this logic, guess we should drop out of BE since we lost Richmond and Hines to conference opponents. It’s one thing to lose players naturally it’s another to go against someone who is going to be working the phone lines in November and convincing kids he may want seton hall isn’t right for them with 4 months to go in the season.

Tang got the ziggy during the season.Schedule another Kansas State. Tang must be less sleazy and was god awful last year. He even called out his players for taking NIL and mailing it in. Isn't the return game this year? Hopefully they are better this season.
Strange posts and responses is right. It appears the return game does not have to be in MSG like a Duke or Kentucky would insist on.
Sounds like you’re taking one hit too many on that Jeffrey you’re smoking.Hard pass. We’re a feeder program tor teams like Bama. I think Oats is as sleezy as it gets and this is a recruiting opportunity for him.
I’d love to watch the Pirates at the Rothman at FDU, even if I had to sit on bleachers. The name of the game in scheduling now is making money. If you have an opponent people will pay to see willing to come play here, you take it.
The games to start questioning where they fit in the schedule are buy games and tournaments. No reason to go to a tournament that's not paying you to be there, you'll be better scheduling 3 decent home and homes in its place.
As for guarantee games, I still think the other jersey schools like St. Peter's, Wagner and FDU have a place on our schedule, but rather than as home guarantee games I think it makes more sense to fill our our schedule by playing them on the road. I'd confidently guess those home games aren't profitable even prior to the guarantee we pay them. May as well cut that loss and let them still make some money by selling out their own gym. Plus it'll have a way better atmosphere than a half empty Rock and being on the road will be better for our metrics.
Been waiting for a team to do this. It’s outside the box, but if you’re looking at the landscape today, it makes a lot of sense. You don’t need to go all-in, but you can schedule one or two of those cupcakes on the road and glean some type of benefit. What probably holds it up, for a lot of schools, is the STM value. While those games don’t hold true value for stms, if you start decreasing the number of games, you’re going to lose STM revenue. But to your point, if you put together a full PnL, plus the competitive implications, it could make sense in a lot of situationsThe name of the game in scheduling now is making money. At Monmouth would be good also. Didn't we play them there during Hazel tenure?I’d love to watch the Pirates at the Rothman at FDU, even if I had to sit on bleachers.
I know he was fired I was just trying to make a point. The poster said do home and home games with less sleazy coaches but like who? Does the poster wish Willard was still at Maryland do home and home with him and he would never poached players?Tang got the ziggy during the season.
This is spot on. You have to pay them and how much travel expenses do they even have. Then we probably have to pay 75k in rent for prudential center. I used to laugh at CL82 who used to post how UCONN was forced to play games the the Excel center and pay market rate rent to the state of CT. We pay market rate for basically every home gameThe name of the game in scheduling now is making money. If you have an opponent people will pay to see willing to come play here, you take it.

I agree you've gotta keep the number of home games for the purpose of season ticket value, but I think having a quality opponent that makes the game a worthwhile ticket is more important than simply banking a win. It sells more singles (quick money) and it improves the value of a season ticket, which big picture sells more season tickets over time and improves the overall demand situation for SHU basketball. I think schools are realizing this as well, which is going to result in more schools being willing the schedule challenging home and homes instead of buy games. The only schools that really don't have incentive to are the Dukes of the world who can already sell out every home game with no effort at whatever price they choose. So those name home and homes should be easier to get.Been waiting for a team to do this. It’s outside the box, but if you’re looking at the landscape today, it makes a lot of sense.
