Haith Contract

I think Haith signed a 6 year contract, I don't think there have been any extensions.

If correct, he has 3 seasons remaining. I don't think he's done enough yet to give him another 3 years. I think this upcoming season should be the biggest determination of a possible extension. If he doesn't make the NCAA tournament next March, I would be careful of extending his contract for 3 or 4 years, taking it out 5 or 6 years.

If he makes the tournament next season he will probably get an extension/new contract through 2022 or 2023. No tournament next season, I would prefer no extension/new contract until after March 2019 based upon the the 2018/2019 season.

Say he has a good season(not great) as in he makes the NiT. Let's say the team projects well for the next season, especially when considering the recruits he signs this year.

It would be a danger if you do, danger if you don't.

If you don't, somebody might be more willing to buy the contract out with only one or two years left, and he might be more inclined to take an offer if you wait until next year to try and extend.

Or you give him the extension, but the next season doesn't pan out, and you are stuck with a 3 or 4 year contract.

The two things that make the most difference are :

1. November signings (the most important November in a long time) (Recruiting is still the most important thing at TU)
2. The 2018-2019 season

This season still has question marks and the kids may still be one year away from the best opportunity for NCAA wins.

He needs to produce a whole lot more then he did toward the end of this past season, they have potential, but if we go out and only win 10-15 games, I say he is in the hot seat

Again, glad you're not the AD.
Did I say I was applying for the job? All I'm trying to say is Haith hasn't impressed me . Making that much money, we should have better results then what we have been getting, we should have been getting better toward the end of the season, not worse, not trying to make anyone upset. And hoping we have a great season.

I would love to be in the dance this season and I think we'll have a tourney worthy team. Having said that it's going to be a rough road. We'll need to get some quality wins both in conference and out. We need a great OOC record and must have a couple of wins out of the WSU, SMU, Cincy group because I don't expect us to win the conference tournament in this improved conference. We'll need to position ourselves for an at large bid.

I don't think missing the dance would be the end of the world though. With the young promising players we have 20 wins and an NIT run wouldn't be that disappointing.

I think an NIT appearance and an NCAA at-large (which we hadn't had in a long time) is pretty good for the first two years. Last year was a rebuilding year with 9 new players. I'm not ready to crown him as one of Tulsa's greats but him leaving at this point would be a disaster for the program.

I think both of those results deserve a bit of an asterisk next to them. The NIT appearance should have been an NCAA appearance but Haith bungled the non-conference. The NCAA at-large really shouldn't have happened in the perception of most casual observers. We were one of the most unexpected inclusions into the field in history for a reason. Also, we didn't even make it into the round of 64.

He walked into a program where the classes were SEVERELY unbalanced and not as talented as those players he's recruiting. Calm down people. Danny Manning didn't give a crap and that's why we were left with 9 seniors. ANY coach would have had a major down year last season.
Man I wish we were past this dead period in athletics such that we had real events and not 'fake posts' to argue about.

GMONEY, do you know when fall practice starts and if any of those practices will be open to the public?

You look at 9 players leaving as negative... I look at it as a possibility to have even better players meaning an even better team.

The Hairpiece might not have had a down year after last season. But then again he would not have recruited Rusic, Dew, & Brown. Haith didn't make lemonade out of lemons those first few years of recruiting. He seems to have acquitted himself over the last couple of recruiting classes.

But the jury is and should be, still out. Saying no to extensions based on limited & absolute requirements is not taking the overall state of the program into account. We don't have all of the facts to which we can devine that yet.

In response to aston, we never have had freshman who could come in as hot stars immediately, or the capacity(because of academics) to get the kind of JC class that comes in on fire. With a little bit of time to mature, this year or next, the may be an even better team. Patience padawon.(toward the general audience not aston)

And to answer your question TRising, no I just know the general period and not a specific date. But I would assume based on last years practices that one or two of them will be open to the public.

One thing you've got to give Haith is he was stuck with the seriously unbalanced classes and has tried to fix it rather than just spackling over it and getting the heck out of Dodge. He probably could have driven more short term success but he set out to get us balanced again even at the expense of some short term pain.

He didn't try to fix it, he actually fixed it toute suite.(Way before I thought he would. I was expecting it to balance out in the next year or two.)

Unfreaking believable that now have 3 Fr, 3 So, 4 Ju, and 3 seniors.(I'm counting Horne as a freshman, considering that he's redshirting his sophomore year.) He fixed it in like less than two years.
