Hadad.....on boycotting your own program....

Do you really believe that "stop going to games" is really the proper way to enact change in your program? Can't remember who you were talking about on T&L, maybe Tennessee or South Carolina, but I'm curious as to if the majority of fans feel this way.

On one hand, you have programs like Ole Miss and Maryland who do that. Look at their stature.

Then you have Clemson and Alabama, who sell out and show up no matter what. Even during Shula, and when Dabo was struggling (and Tommy Bowden).

I think I'd rather have a loyal fanbase that shows up. There are better ways to make your opinion known rather than protesting our own players.

When have Alabama and Clemson bottomed out recently?

Losing money is the only thing that moves the needles these days. Pride doesn't build new facilities.

There were tickets literally on the ground at the Shula coached game I attended. to say UA attendance didn't suffer is just not correct.Fair weather bunch of fans as there have ever been. They just always have fair weather.

Other than the times he already referenced?

When have Alabama and Clemson bottomed out recently?

For example, when we beat them ‘06, they had 91k in attendance. That’s pretty good support during about as bad as a Bama year can be.

I’m boycotting all boycotts these days. Everybody seems to be boycotting something somewhere for some reason. There’s so many boycotts that nobody even notices.

How about have some faith that the AD’s and other leaders at your school are also sports fans and don’t like losing any more than you do? A guy like Cohen doesn’t need a stadium full of empty stands to realize that game days would be a lot more fun if his teams were winning.

Yep "loyalty" has unfortunately left the building and been replaced by a cash register.

I am talking about bottoming out. 3-4 win seasons over a couple of years. Not one bad year and you immediately change coaches.

Yeah that’s not true. I was there too. Stadium was full. Not packed, but full.

Do you think programs will stay with a coach that only wins 3-4 games a year if the fans still show up? Or will they still make a change to improve their product?

What the hell is H talking about. I’m not about to drop a grand to go watch a **** show. I want to be entertained and have fun when I spend my hard earned dollars on my team, otherwise I’ll sit my fat *** at home and check the score during commercials.

After listening to the show yesterday HD6 was referring to Tennessee fans I believe and yep, they've got a right to be peeved. That administration has squandered more advantages and resources than any program in America. Only Texas and maybe UCLA come to mind, and Arkansas if you just look at the power of their alumni.

If they were “on the ground”, that means they were at sold and the school made its money, even if a human didn’t actually walk through a turnstall.

Their alumni/boosters are part of the problem imo. They have too much power and have been too involved, there’s not clear boundaries amongst the power people. Glad MSU doesn’t have that problem.

I remember playing a game at Bama with about a half full stadium in 97 I believe. Yes, they sucked and it was bad weather, but they are not superhuman in support in bad to middling times.

I was there that day as well. JJ Johnson put on a show and broke the single game rushing record for that stadium that day, weather was not great but at worst drizzled and was not cold. Definitely watched many a game in worse conditions. Current Cleveland Browns HC Freddie Kitchens was the bama qb at the time. Bryant Denny Stadium held around 70k at that time and I would guess there was a little less than 50k in attendance.

Let's just say you're right and the stadium was half full. Well that is still 50K (suspect it was closer to 60K or 70K), and much better than other programs are going to do in similar circumstances. We'd have 30K probably.

THAT is the point
