In his announcement he thanked bill o'brien, the PSU fans and several other coaches by name - but not James Franklin. I don't see him as a first round talent, unless I guess if o'brien were to take him. The top of the QB class overall is pretty weak in my opinion - Goff looks the best to me but he has flaws, I haven't seen the Memphis kid enough to have an opinion

I only watched a couple games this year by Hackenberg and Goff and they both looked like interception machines to me.

The kid from Memphis has all of the physical attributes but would have to be drafted as a work in progress. I doubt he would be a high rounder. Not too far off from Hackenberg, though. The fact that he did not mention Franklin is interesting.

In the games I saw Hackenburg play this year, including our game with PSU, I was not impressed. I thought our defense played well against him and the PSU offense and disrupted the pocket. I don't know if Hackenburg would benefit from more time at the college level, he seemed to be going backwards this year. I saw Goff play only a few times this year. I attended the Cal game his freshman year and thought he was a good pro prospect then. I think Goff has come along further in his college career than Hackenburg. I guess we'll see what the pro scouts have to say

Lynch, the Memphis QB, played horrible in his team's bowl game. I think he set the QB position back nearly 18 years to the Gavin Hoffman era.

After a slew of pathetic bowl games yesterday I only tuned into The PSU game for a breif moment in the third. I noticed that McSorley was behind center. Was that because of this announcement or did he get hurt. Makes sense that in a bad draft year for QB's he opts for the draft

His numbers for the season are really good though. McShay and Kiper have him going top 10 I believe. He is good.

Willie, Hack left the game after landing on right shoulder. Looked legit at the time and he came out of game a few plays after. However, he had no sling or anything on his right arm as he watched second half in sweats

The media guys here seem to think that BOB and the Texans will take Hack, though they don't really like the decision. The Texans need a QB, and Hack may be their guy in this year's draft.

McShays latest draft this morning does not show Hackenberg in the first round. He could be a third or fourth rd pick. Certasinly nobody will use a first rd pick for him. This is a very weak draft for qb's. That may push him up into the second rd but he to me has bust written all over him.

I did not realize it was McSorley who led the PSU comeback against GA. He darned near pulled it off.

I know scouts like Hackenberg quite a bit, but we are talking about a kid with a career completion percentage of about 55%, and it has regressed each of his 3 years. That's pretty alarming, IMO. I saw him make some very good downfield throws vs. NU, but it is hard to know what to make of his accuracy numbers.

The poor kid has also been sacked 103 times in 3 years, or about once every 12.5 pass attempts. That's criminal. He needs to leave PSU for his physical health alone. At this point, he's better off in the hands of an NFL coaching staff and riding the pine for a year or two to fix whatever issues he has.

He was talking about lynch, not hackenburg. Before the bowls I saw several mocks that had him #1 overall. Now that the top of the draft order is set they can refine the mocks, but he (lynch) still seems like the top QB, despite the poor bowl performance.

The kid has a cool name.

But other than that, the first thought I had when I opened this thread was "Ryan Leaf".

Pleased he's leaving PSU for the NFL. It should be interesting watching how the young man performs behind a quality OL. Agree PSU's OL is likely the worst in the B1G. Then again, maybe the PSU OL is just an excuse for lack of consistent high quality QB play out of Hackenberg.

Time will tell.

As a Chargers fan, the mention of Ryan Leaf reignites many painful memories. That guy was the worst 1st round draft pick bust ever. Set back the Chargers for years (though many Chargers fans would say decades of ownership by the Spanos family has set the team back as well!)

Penn State's OL has been bad the past couple of years, but Hack hasn't helped things with his tendency to hang on to the ball too long and his erratic footwork (possibly a result of him hearing footsteps due to constant sacks) haven't helped the PSU offense. He has raw talent, but somebody is going to have to do a lot of work with him to make him NFL ready. When we played them this year, you could see that Van Hoose interception of him in the fourth quarter coming from a mile away, and that really ended up costing Penn State.
