an Ole Miss caller went on rant about how we are picked by the media to finish 6th in the west and that MSU fans are delusional. Richard Cross supported the argument and brought up the point that we have only beaten Ole Miss (west) under Mullen. How can they ignore the fact that the west has had 3 national champions and at one point last year had the top 3 ranked teams in the country? Either way, if you want to get a true feel for how teams match up, checkthe vegas odds and that's where the BS ends.</p>

Dick Cross cant stand that some of our fans have a higher that .500 expectation. Hes been trying to throw in jabs all day especially at the commercial break cut offs.

It's also about time Mullen beat someone besides them in the West. The best way to shut them up about a certain point it to prove them wrong.

Mullen can do so in Week #2.

I actually love the argument because it means absolutely nothing, and probably has done more to help our players have a chip on their shoulders this off season than anything else. The argument does nothing but help our players prepare for the season and does no harm to us. So when we win at least 2 West games this year, we can tell the Rebs thanks for their helping our program get over the hump. The enemy of greatness is mediocrity and the Rebs have made damn sure that MSU fans don't accept mediocrity. Thanks guys, our coaches couldn't have done a better job at this then you have.

LSU 09 & Arkansas 10....still a kick in the jewels. We make just one play in both or either games......we don't hear this dumbass talk.

in over a decade? Hell yes! Now, to rebut that guy's argument:

In 2010, next to last in the West was good enough for a NYD bowl game and a national ranking of 15. Last place in the West was 1-7, 4-8.

In 2011, next to last in the West was good enough for a bowl game, stood toe to toe with the two best teams in the nation for 3 quarters*, was a 9 yard, 35 inch bogus first down from beating Auburn (and possibly finishing 4th in the West) with a last second, chip shot field goal. Last place in the West was 0-8, 2-10.

*Moral victories aren't worth **** unless you're 1-7 or 0-8 but I'll use them here since UM stood toe to toe with Bama and LSU for about 3 series.

Despite the arguments about who is on the rise, who is stagnant, who sucks.....etc..., one thing is clear. The drop off between next to last and last in the West is a helluva lot larger than the drop off from 1st to 6th.

But, yes, it is about time we nipped it in the bud and beat somebody. AU being the most likely candidate of course.
