Phil Knight literally stole the shoe market from all of Asia and then forced them to make all of his shoes in sweatshops while he kept all the money. A dweeb porn-lawyer isnt going to win a head-to-head battle here.

Hat-tip to my guy

Man, the poor sports scribes got Charlie Brown'd. They were so ready. Ignored who the source was and were ready for blood. Just wish the SDNY would've given us the afternoon to allow these tools to get a few articles out. Cal and K would've had no less than 20 mentions.

Important to keep this in mind:

The allegations Avenatti was making are still going to come to light because that's part of the extortion, just like in the Pitino/Sypher case. Pitino had to say why she was threatening him to the feds. Nike has already told the feds why Avenatti was threatening them.

Did this really happen?

He tweets that he’s about to bring down Nike, then immediately gets arrested for extortion. You could call 911 and report a burglary in progress and **** wouldn’t go down that fast.
He somehow got arrested in NY and Cali simultaneously. In short, don't f*ck with Phil.

When I read the back-to-back posts on KSR, I had to stop and think really hard if it's April Fool's Day, or some other occasion for a prank.

The immediate turn of events is just unreal. [jumpingsmile]

Stolen from lawyer friend:

He’ll likely represent himself, argue this was a legitimate attempt to settle a case, then present all of his supposed evidence.

This ain’t over.

F Avenatti, and the rest of you scoundrel attorneys.

Nike is doing the same thing Adidas is doing. I thought that was common knowledge. Look at the Marvin Bagley house deal.

[laughing]

I read all of these posts in a row. Didn’t even get the chance to make a smart *** remark about not giving a ****. At some point, if every blue blood gets involved in this, then nothing happens to anyone. Kind of like 1 kill is a murder, and a million murders is a statistic.

Checked my phone and was hit by both sets of news at once, except I read the arrest first.

Talk about a couple of really confusing minutes.

This is like the time Woody Harrelson staged an event to plant hemp seeds in front of law enforcement then immediately get arrested in Beattyville.

Good point PTI... what's really the difference between what he did and saying "if we don't settle for X, I'll see you in court where I'll sue you for 10X"?

I'm no lawball but I don't think settlements typically include an attorney requiring the other party to employ them.

Set aside the extortion, he’s turbo-f*cked for misappropriating client funds for personal use. He’ll likely be disbarred for that.
Also, tax evasion:

"In reality, Avenatti never filed personal income tax returns for 2011, 2012 and 2013 and did not make any estimated tax payments in 2012 and 2013. Instead of the millions of dollars he claimed to have paid in taxes, Avenatti still owed the IRS $850,438 in unpaid personal income tax plus interest and penalties for the tax years 2009 and 2010," the U.S. Attorney's Office said. "Avenatti also submitted a fictitious partnership tax return for his law firm."

RE: Timing

-the extortion happened a while back. This cat got a heads up from someone that he was about to be arrested...so he tweets out his ******** to muddy the waters.

Doesn't the complaint say the first act of extortion occurred March 20, 2019? If so, that's moving at the speed of light for the feds, meaning they have one or more reasons to try and keep him quiet.
