On the KSR pregame there was conversation about Cal playing 4 guards. Have they been watching Cal? More likely we play 3 bigs before 4 guards.

“You can’t just run into somebody in basketball.”

:joy::joy:

Well, you CAN, evidently, be completely inferior athletically and physically, get beaten on the court by your opposing man, fall down upon even the slightest hint of contact, and win that possession by tricking the ignorant officials into calling a foul on the other team.

So you’re cool with that, Wayne?

F off.

Yet somehow the best, most-skilled, and most-athletic players, always seem to have no problem getting to the rim without charging. And if they get cut off, they seem to do a good job of making the pass to the player left open who was covered by the help defender.

Secondly, there's what, a couple charges per game? If that? Most of the offensive fouls are when the guy penetrating pushes off with his forearm. Is that okay now too? Should we just make this a layup line?

Here's a thought... be skilled enough so that if you do beat your man, be good enough to look ahead and see if you need to dunk it, pull up for an 8 footer, or pass to an open man. Sorry basketball is challenging.

Defensive player is supposed to be completely set, and they haven’t called it that way in 10 years, at least. The reason they’re supposed to be set? It’s a player control foul, and if you run into a guy completely set, you were likely out of control.

Under no circumstances should a charge be called when you slide in front of a guy who by the laws of physics cannot avoid you. (Ex: secondary defenders basically diving in front of guys at the last second when the offensive player has zero chance to avoid them)

And learn to recognize flops you ignorant piece of **** refs. If 90% of people can see it clearly on their tv when it occurs, you should have no problem seeing it. Just because a guy’s arm goes forward does not mean he automatically pushed off. Most of the time the offensive player is driving with his arm holding off the defender who is pushing up against him, then when the defender flops the offensive player’s arm moves forward. This isn’t automatically a GD push off and it’s not hard to recognize 90% of the time. It’s obvious when a guy actually pushes off. The fact that refs cannot get it correct just shows that most of them are incompetent morons.

I agree with this 100%

As someone who's watched John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, Julius Randle, Terrence Jones, Karl-Anthony Towns, etc. play college ball and all get ******** charge calls from no-talent 6'1 kids sliding under them... False.

From 2014, aka the year they tried to cut back on charge calls and more closely uphold the letter of the law on block/charge, only to go back on it because coaches (and referees, per Mike DeCourcy) complained about it, this is from a USA Today column from March and remains my favorite column on the subject.

Many coaches applaud the officiating change because it was intended to increase scoring and reduce the risk of injuries that could occur from collisions near the basket. But others point to players such as Marquette's Chris Otule, a big man with a limited offensive skill set who found a niche by sacrificing his body to take charges.

"You have a completely selfless 6-foot-10, 270-pound kid who will rotate over and stand in front of a guard and fall down," Marquette assistant Brad Autry said. "He will take it directly in the chest. And because you want more scoring, you are going to discourage that? That's a good rule?

"He has gotten some calls, but it's frustrating. Don't modify the charge-block rule. That is what college basketball is about. That is why people watch it instead of the NBA."

I will post this until it is no longer relevant.

Wayne is developing a Hall of Fame of bad takes.

He's pro charge call in college basketball.
Currently mounting a staunch defense of those Cov Cath kids for heckling and indimidating an octogenarian native American.
He's firmly anti-expanded gambling and anti-marijuana.

Keep it up, pal.

You have to be a complete dumbass to see that wasn’t truly a charge. Well, unless you actually think Hagans shouldered that kid so hard it threw him into the 3rd row.

My favorite part is the crowd going wild when one of their players dribbles from one hand to the other.
