I hope Louisville’s football team makes a real splash and hires Marvin Lewis to be their new coach.

Like you, I have a ton of respect for UL Basketball and their old school fans. Denny Crum is maybe the most underrated college basketball coach ever. He was also a pioneer of sorts with taking Wooden’s high post offense and 3/4 court press and modernizing it.
UL Football though? Touch that whole deal. Just a giant mirage. CM Newton should’ve never forced their hand to build a new stadium and should’ve agreed to play them at Old Cardinal Stadium. They’d be UAB if he didn’t.

I rarely listen to local sports talk radio anymore, mostly because every host has the verbal acumen of a 7th grader and the reasoning of a gnat. But I caved today because I wanted to hear how my river city brethren are holding up after whiffing on a 6-6 Messiah. So I flip on ESPN 680 to hear Bob Valvano spinning yarn…
….and holy hell, that guy is awful. How the touch is he still on the air? 17 straight minutes of lecturing the audience before I had to punch my eardrums hard enough for the ringing to drown him out. I don’t care if he has above average X’s & O’s roundball knowledge, can site his time at Bellarmine or reminisce about his brother storming the court, he’s an awful listen.
Tip for a program director to put on a good show - find someone interesting first and foremost and if they can talk sports, all the better.

My radio broke in my truck so I've just been streaming podcasts and music for the past 2 months. Wonderful experience tbh and broadened my sports horizons. It's like cutting the cord with cable/dish which has also been a great experience. I highly recommend both.
Word broke while we were playing basketball last night. Afterwards on the way home I tuned into 680 for ***** and giggles only to hear Deener shitting himself on the air. He was all pissy then something was going wrong with his IPhone that really put him over the edge. Heady times.
Seeing MENGUS post several highlight clips from App State's game against Penn State, in a desperate attempt to get people excited about plan B, nearly caused me to overdose on schadenfreude.
Purdue has committed $100m to Football since Brohm arrived. Their football only practice and workout facility is among the best in the country. Louisville never really had a chance. At best Brohm would win 4 games next year at Louisville. He'll win 7-8 at Purdue. No brainer really.
It appears that after last night’s decision JEFF is no longer worthy of being a LOUISVILLE MAN.

The concept that UL wouldn't be a rebuild job if only they could've hired Jeff Brohm is mystifying to me. You could hire Bear Bryant and it would still be a rebuilding job. That team was a trainwreck.
Oh you think kicking your only tight end off the team then having to go retrieve him once you realize there was nobody else to fill the void qualifies as a trainwreck?
I listen to Louisville sportstalk radio exclusively. TS. It’s so awful that I like it. Deener, then Sweeney/Lach, Valvano, and Jason Anderson on the drive home.

I’m guilty of listening to Lach and Sweeney. It’s somewhat off the cuff. It’s amazing how much more objective they are and willing to crush UofL when they deserve it now that Jurich is gone.

Lach/Sweeney are genuinely good, and so is Deener for the most part. Valvano is a little more of an acquired taste. However, I can barely stomach Anderson. His voice is nails on a chalkboard and he's the longest-winded individual I think I have ever heard, which is a bad combo.
Well they are currently comparing Satterfield to a young Urban Meyer, citing Utah's win over Alabama in the 2009 Sugar Bowl, which was played 4 years after Meyer actually coached at Utah, but whatever.

Hard to believe just two months ago, they were still on a Clemson-like path as a program.
Valvano gets all red assed and starts going off on the doltery reactions from UL fans. He also curses lightly at free will on the air.
His on air frankness about Jurich the day Jurich was let go was awesome. Something along the lines of ... The man was an asahole and treated me like ****. What do you want to me say?

No one is really talking about that quote, and to me it's shocking. First, it's obviously just sour grapes. If you didn't think he was your guy, then why did you offer him the job? He says this as if he turned down Brohm, and everybody knows that's not true.
Tyra saying this actively turns the fan base against Brohm as well. He didn't want to coach us. He's not a "Louisville Man." A good PR guy says "well, what can you do, the guy is building something special, we respect that, and we know he was really torn about this." Instead you go out of your way to say the guy didn't want to be here and imply somehow that you didn't want him anyway. I can't imagine being a member of the Brohm family and hearing that. I'd be furious.

Yes. Crawford just shared his column from the time it happened. The Brohms' disdain for Jurich after that was pretty much common knowledge (unlike the whores which were kept private and later disclosed by a Smoketown prostitute).
