I faded away from bourbon for a bit, with a good excuse, but kind of re-caught the buzz a little this year and fun of trying to find "retail" releases of the good stuff. Not going to stand in line for hour or anything.

LB on Euclid has Yellowstone at $33. That's a hell of a price for IMO a really good whiskey.

* I’m good with Old Fo and Weller, and I’ll let all these Johnny-come-latelies like TMFH fight over the overpriced stuff to make themselves feel special.

* Michael Sokolove was on NPR this morning talking about his Pitino book, and made a great point about all these shoe company scandals.

UofL brings in $45 million a year in revenue, and pay out at most $400,000 in scholarships. Particularly to that audience, those numbers need to be repeated.

* Wal-Mart —> now stores soap, yes, SOAP behind a locked glass door. WTF?

* Mail bombs are being shipped to liberals all across the country. Just me opinion, but this is 100% the fault of....

- the media, for perpetuating the hatred that exists across party lines
- the president, for promoting violence
- the hate filled democratic party, because they started it
- republicans, for fostering a culture of hatred
- and I guess they guy who sent the bombs, but he really only gets a very very small part of the blame, if any at all

^^ The "bombs" are clearly fakes and weren't meant to go off. But the headlines are working for many.

The most anti-Kentucky thing about me, besides living in Knoxville, is I can't stand bourbon anymore. I can't even smell it without getting nauseous, guess it was the 20 yrs of drinking it like water. I crush Scotch though, excessively so. Scotch, domesticos, and tequila blanco are about all my palate enjoys these days. Gin & tonic is in there but gin just effs me up too much so have to moderate the intake.

-Starcade '85 "The Gathering" may have been the single best "sporting" event in history. CTE and blood be damned.

I drink beer or vodka and water. My wife has brought home 6 bottle of Goose from a charity event after I just finished the 6 from the year prior.

I don't know what your national sources are telling you, but, "Authorities have said that the bombs found in the packages were rudimentary, but functional."

But who knows, you and Lou Dobbs may be right.

* Chief, please don't respond. I don't care about your politics...I love ya, man.

* My bourbon game is pretty weak and I want to step it up. My bar is currently anchored by a 12-yr Elijah Craig. I also have a bottle of Four Roses, a little bit of Calumet Farm and 3 handles of Jim Beam for mixing with Ale 8 or Diet Coke.

I like making my cocktails with Bulleit, so I definitely need a bottle of that. Sounds like Old Fo and Ancient Age are next.

Maybe Chad can come up and watch the game with me in the new man cave on Saturday and bring me a bottle of something nice? #Official_Invite

* Great time to be a UK fan, folks. Soak it up.

* Big night on tap. Apparently it is the 10-yr anniversary of our first date. We are hitting up Bella in Loveland before a round of parent/teacher conferences. That is all contingent on the 6-yr old getting over the stomach bug that sidelined her this morning.

* Gridiron Cats by 14 bigguns. I don't know why I am becoming optimistic about this one. Monday, I was feeling a loss coming on.

Get a couple of takeaways early, hit them with a few big plays and then the 4th Qtr is Benny Time. I dig it.

I made a concentrated effort to put more vodka in my routine but just can't enjoy the taste. Tried a ton of different mixers just doesn't work for me. Some Tequila Blanco with La Croix lime though, shew wee, was my drink all summer.

I too, enjoy drinking Scotch whisky.

Laphroiag; it’s like a tire fire in your mouth, in a good way.

I actually "cut" Laphroiag with a 1/4 glass of a Highland region just to tone it down a tad.

Not my "go-to" but for the $ Glenmorangie ain't a bad drink. Had a helluva lot worse that cost more. Even though it's Irish I added Jameson to the mix in the last couple yrs. Good cheap(er) drink as well.

I spend way too much damn money on stogies though. 250 stick electric controlled humidor/cooler that I feel I have to always keep fully stocked. That joy of buying new sticks is a high for me.

Peat is a unique thing -- took me awhile, but I now enjoy it very much as a change of pace to bourbon.

The first time I tried Laphroiag I was convinced it was just chemicals w/ brown food coloring. Tasted like a hospital.
