We play mean. For years we have played cute, with smoke and mirrors hiding our personnel weaknesses. Occasionally we found success but it never felt imposing, more of a “gotcha” that had to be shifted slightly game to game for fear of running out of tricks.
This squad, there are no sucker punches, no slight of hand. We’ve got our lunch pail, our scarred knuckles, and completely content whippin yo *** for 60 min.
But ohhh, now we’re starting to get some confidence and some stars are starting to shine a little brighter as they realize they are a little badder than the average man. And that’s raising the play of everyone else. Throw in some characters created by the WWE and this is a team not ready for a fight but LOOKING for a fight.
They’ve tasted blood.

100% these boys are looking for blood. They’re ready to fight, straight up. We might lose 4-5 games but I promise you all this, these boys will fight and we lose a game the other side will wish they weren’t there.
It’s taken 30 some years but I finally know what it’s like to watch a good, ranked Kentucky football team. And it feels good.

Watching UL’s and UT’s programs implode during this rise gives me a lot of pleasure and satisfaction.
UL fanboys/media are ready to fire all of Petrino’s staff, including his family. UT had a player refuse to go into a game while they were being drubbed at home against a team we have already smacked.
Those 2 teams remain on the schedule. I don’t know, but I feel like we’ll be bowl eligible again this year.

No, what I am saying is that Kentucky fans don’t really care what happens because a.) a lot of them don’t trust banks anyway and would be fine living by barter in a post-apocalyptic society, and b.) no one, not even Kentucky fans, is sure of what to do with this information either.
Mississippi State came in averaging 311 yards a game on the ground. They left Lexington with 56 rushing yards and the justified opinion that Kentucky — in football — might be good.
Again, this is confusing for everyone, so the deeply underrated Benny Snell posting pictures of himself carrying a bulldog like a loaf of bread seems like a great coping strategy for all concerned.

Bunch of wild dogs on this football team. In fact with football and basketball the campus is as full of dogs as we’ve ever seen. That was fun last night.
Watched live in Charlottesville as UofL got absolutely dumptrucked then hit the bars to watch this proud Kentucky team dominate one of the most physical teams in college football. Shew wee. I am hungover AF

I can't remember when, if ever, I've seen a UK football team win a game in the trenches. Benny is a badass, but the big nasties won this game, on both sides of the ball. Save for a few outliers, our wins in the past have felt like they were gotten in spite of our D and/or our O-line. With smoke and mirrors, as someone said above. This win was so much more beautiful and satisfying, though. We completely out-muscled and out-hearted a top 15 team. IMO, a lockdown defense is more fun to watch than an explosive offense. You get to watch the opposing offense slowly become hopeless and, dare I say, fearful. THESE are the types of wins that give you confidence that the foundation is strong. I've been ecstatic after wins, but I honestly don't think it's ever been accompanied by the confidence and serenity that this one is. This had nothing to do with luck and everything to do with hard work and passion.
17 in the coaches poll. Pretty damned nice.
I listened to Mark Stoops on the postgame show. A couple things stood out:
- Just how excited Stoops sounded -- not just about the win but about how proud he is to have built the foundation for this program. HIS program.
We give Stoops a lot of crap on here about being Angry Piglet and his screw ups like 7 men on the field, not covering multiple receivers, etc. But part of the bargain with Stoops is that he was a career coordinator before taking this job.
To his credit, he's done what all fans want their coach to do. He's owned up to his mistakes and fixed them. He's clearly worked on his temper and now it comes across as a fiery competitor rather someone who might lose it and do something stupid out of anger. The bonehead coaching mistakes have been largely absent this year. We've also cut waaaaay down on the player control penalties. Jordan Jones hasn't done anything stupid yet (knock on wood). Westry and Baker have had some but that seems to be addressed.
It just seems like this whole thing (starting with Stoops) is *MATURING* into a pretty profession good football program, not just a very good team.
I feel like I felt when Papaw Brooks was our coach. The foundation is solid and everything is going to be competently done year in and year out. For UK football, that's a damn miracle.
- Stoops seems really invested in *this* program, not just his personal success. This is premature but if he keeps this up other programs are going to come calling. That goes double if Taggart is the touch up in the making at FSU that seems to be apparent.
It would be pretty damn awesome to get a decade and a half of continuity and competence in this program during a period where being in the SEC is the best asset a football program can have, especially with a staff that can recruit the living hell out of Ohio.
Quick Sunday Thoughts:
- Chad alluded to this game's importance on Friday. Florida was the biggest win of Stoops' career here, but this win was easily his most impressive. We imposed our will on a pretty damn good team and demoralized them. When has that ever happened for UK Football?
- The crowd at Kroger/CWS was Top 5 from my experiences there. Job well done, fellow UK fans. We helped create penalties with that crazy atmosphere.
- Benny Snell is not only a great college football player, but he's a great kid and a fantastic face and personality for this football team. Love him.
- Josh Allen played like a 1st Round NFL Draft pick. He was flying all over the field.
- Full house this Saturday night again. Can't wait.

The sequence where they started 1st and 10 in the red zone, but ended up with 3rd and 39.... goosebumps. That’s the moment where the place went just completely apeshit and everyone realized “oh, this defense is the real deal.” It’s the type of thing you see happen at other stadiums and just never seems to happen at CWS.
May have been my favorite part of the game.
