* Reid Travis sounds like a cauc from an Ivy League-ish school, too. Always nice to land a Dukie type amongst the rest of our players, who of course all hate school, don't give af about Kentucky, are only in this for themselves, etc.

* We're far enough into this one-and-done thing that there's enough info out there -- you can't really win with ALL one-and-dones, but you don't need a bunch of seniors to do it, either. Cal's best teams have returned a lot of talent from the previous season, and this bunch is gonna be right there in the mix with his best ever.

* We straight nightmares.

You can’t? We came within a couple buckets of doing just that with 7 of our Top 8 as freshmen in 2014.

The Nas is horrific, just like all the other Kanye releases this month save Push. Like I said, it's all up to Aubrey.

JayZ/Beyoncé even put out a surprise album this week, and it's as expected. I used worship in the Destiny's Child days, but GD she's the most annoying female on earth to me these days. STAY OUT OF JAY'S MUSIC PLZ THX

I'm actually listening to Bachata more than anything right now.

-The Minnesota/Final 4/Travis angle will be played out by week 2 of the season, but what a story it would be. :sunglasses:

My hs buddy Euge (black mike's bro) had the whitest dad of all time. He used to insist rappers "were nothing but a bunch of criminals." Sounded exactly like an Eddie Murphy pretending to be a white dude skit.

You're basically That Guy now. Congrats.

[laughing]

Watched his interview with The Breakfast Club a while back. His name is just as good as his picture.

6ix9ine

These are "notable" SoundCloud rappers along with XXX and 6ix9ine according to Wikipedia.

Rap isn't dead any more than pop/country/whatever the hell else you listen to is. In fact, those weirdos probably put out much better music than anything you'll hear on traditional radio. If you want to hear good music, you just have to go find it. All these non-traditional sources have actually helped music considerably, imo. Tons of new platforms for artists to get their work out to the public.

And, generally speaking, if you listen to the actual radio, you're a loser and you're part of the problem.

I heard a few just now....sounds pretty good, but Kanye's hooks are atrocious. Really kills the vibe.

Plus, I'm too white for the new Nas/jay stuff. I have no earthly idea what they're talking about bc I'm racist and don't understand the struggle.

XXXTentacion? Is that the name of the person? I guess I scrolled too quickly, thought I saw 'XXXTentaction' and just assumed someone had found a new sub-genre on a Tuesday afternoon.

"Emo rap." My God.

Emo rap has been noted to depart from the "traditional" tones found in modern mainstream hip hop in favor of more emotional and personal lyrical content,[8][9] described by the Wall Street Journal as "giving their elders the finger."[10] Lyrics tend to focus on topics such as depression,[11] loneliness, anxiety,[12] drug abuse, nihilism,[13] suicide,[1] heartbreak,[14] and self-medication.[15] The genre is characterized by its combination of musical elements commonly found in conscious hip hop with indie rock instrumentals.[16] Horse Head of the collective Gothboiclique has described the music as "...sort of nostalgic, but it's new too...no one's really done **** like this. It's like emo rap and melodic trap".[17] Fans and artist of the genre along with the scene that surrounds it are often referred to as "sad boys".[18][19]

The bigger rap argument is mumble rap v. lyrical rap. All those guys are mumble rappers unsurprisingly.

Landon Foster announced he is gay. I didn’t know people even came out anymore unless it was to get positive press after a scandal.

I haven't listened to rap since 1999, and as a middle-class suburban dad I'm fine with it.

Should be pretty loaded next year, what a turnaround from that night Zion committed to Duke and we lost to Kansas. What a comeback by Cal, really excited to have a vintage Kentucky team that should hopefully be good all year, have some marquee non-conference games that should be fun.

Other than Drake and some Kendrick Lamar, I can’t listen to modern hip hop. I get it. I’m a middle aged white man but my main take away is that this modern **** has no rythym & harmony. None. There’s no development of beat. It’s all hyper fast beat auto tune crap.

Watched Straight Outta Compton the other day. I suggest a lot of these new "rappers" do the same. Keep it real fellas.

NWA had some *awful* music. I’m fact, if you line up the lyrics to “Straight Outta Locash” against “Straight Outta Compton,” it’s hard to tell which is the parody and which is the original.

Kevin Knox says one team interview at the Combine pressed him if he had a child. Knox, was surprised, obviously replying “no.” The team asked again, saying their intel had learned he had a child. Knox asked for the kid’s name and the team finally relented, admitting it was hoax.

Yep, just looking at them it's pretty easy to see why white teen-tweens are feeling teenage soundcloud rappers. It's a well-settled fact the 12-16 year old demographic has horrendous taste in basically everything.
