Talk smack about Self all you want, but the way KU attacked Duke’s zone was a thing of beauty. Now granted, it just kind of looked like they made an entry pass to the free throw line and the player either shot, attacked the rim, or kicked out for a three, but still, there are coaches making $7M+ / yr who struggle with that.

I don't have a problem with Kansas, never have. Total wins don't mean **** to mean. Titles are all that matters. One more just gives them 4. And they're fans are fine. I've actually met them in person, not just on the internet. But if Nova wins then it will be a non stop suck fest about how they do things the right way, and they do. I just don't want to hear about it. Rock Chalk this Saturday!
I picture Chad reading this and "hulking out" like Hulk Hogan used to do - just shaking his head and pumping his fists in fury.

I read a couple chapters of this to get to bed after the KSU game.

I'm the Bill Walton of Gyero. I'm odd, eccentric, love more than I hate, hold my own opinions no matter how much I'm ridiculed, and I have some wicked post moves. Hate all you want but I'm not changing. I'm my own man. And BBdk, you have a stronger affinity for the cards than I do. Respect and like are 2 different things.

I do hate UNC though, more than anything.

Kansas fans in person are better than some others but not by that much. Still good to see them lose a big game.

- I don't think some of you understand just how arrogant and awful Unc fans are in person. If you did you would root for Duke to beat them. Am I right :100points:cat?

-Agree on Kansas. They're not bad in person, at least in my experience. atlantahappycat would disagree, has had epic screaming matches with a few.

-Agree on UNC. Loathe them more than any fan base in any sport. Really more than probably any group, outside of ISIS.

What is truly astounding is, in my experience in NCAAT environments in New Orleans 1993, Birmingham 1995, Indianapolis 1997, San Antonio 1998, and then at UK vs UNC home games in Chapel Hill (football in 1990, basketball in 2000 and 2002), they are very prone to initiating unprompted smack talk. Even after they've lost. It's uncanny. They seek us out to try to smack talk us and brag about the myths and randomly-selected sample sizes (most wins since 1966! per their media guide, etc.) that they're indoctrinated with. I've never encountered a fan base like theirs, nothing even close. Hence, the birth of The Quiz in 1998.

-Agree UNC's fan base is worse than Duke's, but that doesn't mean I prefer Duke vs UNC. K, the hypocrisy, the media make me loathe them about equally.

Haven't had many encounters with Duke's fan base though. I don't remember running into any of them in Indianapolis 2015.

When we played them in ATL in the Champions Classic in 2012, we were in a section with a number of Duke fans. Between games, I conducted an unscientific survey, and politely asked about 7 different groups of Duke fans why they rooted for Duke. None had a connection to the university. They were all like people who grew up in (for example) Iowa who, for some reason, are NY Yankees fans.

I think Jay Wright with 2 titles becomes very dangerous. And I don't see him leaving Nova. They could become the next Duke once K is done. I'm just reading the tea leaves.

Helps when you have shooters all over the floor. I'll give Self credit though, I thought this team would struggle.

When he turned down the Kentucky job in 2009, Wright said he didn't want to live in the fishbowl that job required. He likes the way Philadelphia sports exist. The city is big on college basketball but easily and happily diverted by pro sports.

"There's a lot of great things about coaching at Villanova, but one that I really enjoy is during basketball season you're like a pro team," he said. "You're big time, but in the offseason there's so many good sports teams and happenings you get to blend in. I really, really enjoy that."

That is a solid hire. Shame to have to hate another coach I used to like.

Oh well... Touch Chris Mack.

I have lived in Raleigh for 6 years and recently graduated from Fuqua at Duke. I am not exaggerating that I have only interacted knowingly, outside of tenured faculty, with less than 20 actual Duke fans to my memory. That includes classmates in the program/random campus , numerous work contacts, etc. It's just what it is over there.

contrarians

Ha! Two of my closest friends (who are brothers) are the biggest Duke fans you will find. Their reasoning: their dad got transferred to Charlotte, NC from Chicago when they were kids; they didn't want to move, and because every kid in their school was a UNC fan they went the contrarian route. I was the lone UK fan at that school, so I don't really blame them. To hell with UNC.

To be fair, some of those UNLV players back then didn’t even get their degrees and were “friendly” with shoe companies. Abhorrent if you think about it too much.

I think Cal sees this and has already started to adjust recruiting. It's just a hunch, but I think he can't wait to get Baker, Herro and Keldon Johnson on campus with Quade, spread the floor and see what it's like to try and do what Golden State does. Matt Jones told an anecdote recently where Cal said he can't recruit anyone else who can't shoot. I think we're going to see a much different make up to our teams going forward. Pretty pumped about the possibility, tbh.

-Can you imagine the secret text thread's current sentiment? Mercy. Grab a coke and enjoy some Bonzo sexpisodes.

-Preface with obligatory -> F*CK LOUISVILLE. Dumb f*cking idiots. Fire Pitino, like any other school would have during the Sypher scandal, and you save yourself a decade+ of misery. They could've hired a Mack level coach at any time the last 10 years.

-One positive, with the seasons over -> Weekends are primarily free with the weather (at some damn point) moving to awesome, day light until 8p, nice lil rides. Lets f*cking goooo!!

-Kansas... smh, Vern.

-Bahama's August 2018? :eyes:
