2 years ago I coached my daughter's soccer team at our Y. I had to google a bunch of the rules...apparently I missed the rule that the goalie could go all the way out to that big box to kick or throw it when they save a shot. My daughter was my goalie because none of the other kids wanted to be, she was pretty decent but not exactly big and strong. She would just kick it from inside that small box, none of us knowing any different, and the other team would get it immediately and score. This went on for most of the first game until the ref told me after the other team scored the first 10 goals what we were doing wrong.Soccer is a weird sport. If your kid wants to keep playing it as he gets older and get "good" at it, the rec leagues are worthless because the dads/coaches usually don't know what they're doing in terms of technical training.
Anyway, my best player was some 8 year old playing up that got private lessons and was homeschooled. I looked to him for all strategic moves...I think he was too embarrassed to correct me on that one. His dad rocked a man-bun and was less than impressed with me as a strategic coach.
My daughter never played soccer again.
