what's the consensus on Old Fashioned vs Manhattan? Recipes? Ready to mix up the brown water + 2 cubes.

Easier the better.

Manhattans are the more efficient drink to mix up. Bourbon or rye, sweet vermouth, couple splashes of bitters of your choice. Garnish with some cherries. There are a lot of “artisan” cherries out there now, but the old school red maraschino ones work fine.

I like a bourbon : vermouth ratio of 4 to 1. The traditional recipe says 2 to 1, but I think the vermouth is too overpowering at that strength.

On the rocks is fine, but if you take the time to shake it, strain and serve in a cocktail glass, it’s really good.

Old fashioned is a great drink, obviously, but probably takes a bit more effort to make well. Manhattan is pretty fool proof.

Can also hide marginal whiskey in a Manhattan; the vermouth masks it. Old fashioneds call for a good whiskey.

Keene Trace getting the PGA Tour event the week of The Open Championship (Barbasol Championship) is pretty cool. Really looking forward to Kyle Stanley beating Kevin Tway on the 3rd hole of sudden death while Tiger Woods misses the cut.

I think my cubbies had a few manhattans and old fashioneds tonight.

Grief.

Watching Justin Fields(#2 overall in the Rivals50000).

Bigger and faster than everyone. His OL holds the **** out of everyone. I'll take JW, although this is only from one game.

At this point I'd rather watch the NBA or HS football than NFL/MLB/NHL.

If Tiger misses the cut it will be at Carnoustie.

1/2 spoon of simple syrup in bottom of cocktail glass. Muddled maraschino cherry & orange in simple syrup. A few ice cubes. Brown. A couple of drops of aromatic bitters. Top with water.. Enjoy.

Manhattans and old fashioneds are not exactly “cute” recipes, drxman1.

And if you want to discuss drinking bourbon like a “man,” neat would be a good place to start.

"My Cubs/Cubbies" has been a running joke on here for a few years. How can you not have figured that out by now?

Patrick Beverly is basically DeAndre Liggins so yeah [laughing]

O/U on how many times Beverly called Lonzo a b**** ninja in that span? 8.5

Feel bad for Lonzo, watching the reality show he really seems like a good kid that deep down hates all the attention but is afraid to tell his dad to STFU and GTFO. Hell, even Lavar seems pretty likeable but he need not talk ish FOR his kids. Any call out he makes is going to be all over the headlines at this point, time to let the churren talk their own ish.

Brandon Ingram may be the softest player in the NBA. He generally hovers outside the 3 point line but when he goes near the basket....it makes UK's version of Skal look like DeMarcus Cousins. Pretty sure he just tried to pump fake a layup mid air against a white at least 4" shorter than him off of a magnificent outlet pass by Lonzo Ball to get him down low against a white guy 4" shorter than him. As I type this he gets an and 1 through contact....but still.

What a dookie puss. K is pretty good at covering guys weak spots before they get drafted. Everyone knew he was weak but K let him hover and bomb 3s so it really wasn't evident he was such a giant *****.

Agree with Wynn's ratios. I'll add that a great Manhattan should be made with a Rye bourbon. Bulleit for economy. Michter's for when your rivals athletic department collapses. A true GYEROMAN should strain into a martini glass.

While you're letting your smugness show, ditch the simpleton maraschino and splurge on a brand like Luxardo. Yeah they're expensive, but consider it the cocktails equivalent to The Dude's rug.

If you can get a bottle of Luxardo maraschino liquer you should try an aviation. You couldn't make them for a long time because maraschino liquer was unavailable in the states for years.

3 ounces gin
dash of luxardo
dash of lemon juice

(add a dash of creme de violette if you can find it)

shake/strain/garnish

It's a definite old school cocktail.

Sensitive soul aren't ya? It was a joke.

And just fyi...Tiger has about as much of a chance at making the cut at the British Open as you do. By the time July rolls around he will look like this...

Manhattan > OF
Not really close IMO

Don't usually garnish it though. I eschew the cherry.

Same on both accounts.

I will enjoy an OF where appropriate, in a bourbon bar that knows what they are doing (which isn't often). I love bitters, have a nice little collection -- but In general, I just don't prefer sugar, cherry, or any other additions to my bourbon other than ice or occasionally a splash of water

Am looking forward to trying Chad's recipe next time I see him, which will be at his wedding in 15 months or whenever.

Another thing that makes the NBA>NFL...my FB and Twitter feed is not littered with debates about players protesting the anthem for reasons that are unclear and people-the freaking leader of the free world getting their panties in a wad and fueling the fire by responding like jackasses.

Yeah, that's a nice thing to not have to deal with in the toy store of life (i.e. Sports).

I appreciate Scott Charlton's twitter feed but wonder if the man has any skin left on his pecker or if there is just a tube hanging there from frenetically beating off to even the most minor UK-related highlight.

Really don't understand how Charlton does what he does, he must have a team?

He'll be posting UK clips from 7 different games all within minutes of one another. Even if he has League Pass and a Sportsbook Setup at home, I don't know how he'd be able to catch every single UK player bucket. Either way, his account is incredible.

Dude's wife must be cool AF tho.

I think he's a computer program? That's my best guess, but he scares me tbh. In a good, respectful way...I don't want to upset "it".
