Jones,Nelson,Player

Player, maybe, simply because of majors. Nelson, no, despite the 10 more wins. Phil's world stage dominance trumps that, much like what Tiger did. Jones, maybe, but his short and limited run could be debated.

Even if you inc. 2 of the 3, that puts Phil in the top 10.

Old Tom Morris is the oldest winner of The British Open, at 46 and change. But, there were only 14 damn people that played in the tournament. **** like that deserves a * beside it.

Chase nailed it, imo.

Top 10 paper resumes don't necessarily = the Top 10 golfers (best actual players) of all time -- even though Phil still has an argument even on resume when considering the era & his worldwide accomplishments at every level. Pretty sure I cannot be convinced that Phil isn't one of the 10 best players to tee it up, regardless.

-Briscoe's best path is to go undrafted and make a team that values him for what he does, and can hopefully be. Happens all the time, but I wouldn't bet on it with him.

I think it's the exact opposite. How else can you rank players, historically, but by their accomplishments? I get that there will always be arguments about quality of field and depth of talent across eras, but it gets much more subjective when you start trying to compare individuals across eras. How good would Phil have been if he grew up with the same quality of instruction (non-existent), equipment, and course conditions as Walter Hagen? How good would Bobby Jones have been hitting 460cc drivers most of his career? It's easier, respectively, to compare guys based on what they accomplished at the highest levels of the game, at their time and place in history.

Jack (18 majors, career slam)
Tiger (14, career slam)
Hogan (9, career slam)
Jones (13...before retiring at 28)
Snead (7 + all time leader in PGA Tour wins)
Palmer (7)
Hagen (11)
Player (9, career slam)
Watson (8)
Sarazen (7, career slam)

I love Phil, and I think he's got a lot more great golf in him, but how can you put his resume (as of today, 42 wins and 5 majors) up against those 10? In a vacuum, I agree he's one of the 10 best players to ever set foot on a golf course. And Tiger in his prime was the best. But their resumes do not support that.

If he wasn't a former overhyped Jersey prep star and UK player, why would anyone believe he has the tiniest chance at the League?

Oh well. Good luck, Zay.

Sadly, my favorite memory of him was that first swaggy effort against Duke, mouthpiece hanging from his lips, just slicing up those pricks.

I'm on Chumps' side here, fwiw. Nobody here is actually watching The Masters right now, and won't be for 3+ more hours, which is ********.

:joy::joy::joy:

Btw, thanks everyone for jinxing/ruining ANY shot Phil had of playing well this week. :grimace:

Bobby Jones' place in golf's Top 10 can be debated? I guess. Here's how that debate would go.

"Bobby Jones' short and limited run as a great golfer can be debated."

"You're an idiot."

Only the FACT that what I highlighted wasn't the subject at hand. The top line was...which is entirely different than what you listed.

Jordan Spieth's short and limited run as a great golfer isn't up for debate, and neither is that of Jones. Notice how I didn't include top 10 of all time in that statement? Andy North's short and limited run as a great golfer can't be debated either.

You sound like an MSNBC reporter twisting the new jobs report into X # of people are out of work, versus the # of new jobs that exceeded predictions.

-Again, if Briscoe wants to make money playing basketball then he should leave right now. Today. He will be very lucky to sniff the NBA but that isn't going to change no matter what he does. He's a 6'1, slow, pudgy, PG who can't shoot or jump. Like PTI said, fight in the D-League for a year or two then head on over to Israel, Turkey or China.

-Yep, just jump in the SUV and ride on down to the Masters. That's the life anth leads. Lol. You all f*cked in your head. I have a 2 year old. the people I would stay with have kids. Tickets would be 3k for 2 days at that point. Dumbf*cks. I do well but not even close to that good. Not to mention my wife would murder me.

-Thomas Pieters better not win this ******. Mr, "doesn't like Americans" but is cool to play and use our education system. GTFO.

briscoe's game probably translates better to the mid-90s nba. could have been a backup PG for the riley knicks or something. modern nba game is too fast and too predicated on making shots/spacing. but he's old for his class (21 this month) and his stock was never going to improve

skal is the one kid who could have helped himself by coming back for another year. had already progressed from an atrocious rebounder to an average one. good chance he'd have been first big off the board in this draft

You only had to watch Skal's last 2 months, including his 32/11 outburst to see what kind of improvement these kids can make doing nothing but play/practice basketball at the highest level.

Worst player in UK history? [eyeroll]

No aces on 12 in The Masters since 1988. Even when you consider how few guys go for that flag, that's still unreal given how many golfers have passed through there in 30 years w/ a 9i/Wedge.

Broken back be damned, Freddy's swing looks just as sweet as it ever did. What a dude. :flushed:

He's around that first Page on Thursday 4 out of 5 years, it seems...just wears down.

DJ having long discussions with important looking white people in green jackets in the practice range. He may try to give it a go, but he looks like a player that may WD at some point.

^ You could still get him missing the cut at +650 for awhile yesterday before they finally took his props down...even if he were to take one stroke and WD, your action would be good.

I stayed away b/c I can't do that to Dustin.

Or he could have torn an ACL last summer and never got drafted. IMO, Skal made the right decision as he's got a contract and is playing pretty well in the NBA.

it was his decision. not a criticism or lament. even in sacramento he's closer to his second contract. just hard to imagine him going 28th in 2017

humphries is a better nba prospect than briscoe
