The only thing I'm truly worried about in terms of rivals this year is a sweet 16 matchup. I feel like we will be in the sweet 16 (feel great about that in fact) and I'd prefer to avoid Duke and UL in that round. From elite 8 on I'm good with any rival (got to earn it at some point), just don't want that sweet 16 matchup if it can at all be avoided.

I'd prefer to avoid Arizona, UCLA, Duke, UNC, Villanova, etc.

I just didn't appreciate Strokin's tone. Didn't like it.

Maybe I'm just pissy I'm not in Nashville.

For what it's worth we would be a hard match for Duke to have to handle defensively. Now defending them would be equally hard on us.

Of course if we lose to Alabama we'll end up on the damned 3 seed line with the way the ACC Tournament has worked out.

When we haven't been an obvious 1-seed, we've come out 1-2 lines lower than expected in '11, '14 and '16.

So a team with multiple lottery picks, All Americans and All Conference players, with one of the best coaches of all time will be a tough draw in the tourney?

Hot takes like that is why I come to GYERO.

I with you, wcc. We'll all be in that foxhole together come Sunday.

But I have my eye on them sumbitches and there's no other team in the country that I worry about in a head to head more than them. When at our best, we can beat any team in the country. . . but I worry. It's my job to worry.

I keep looking at all the seeding projections and mock brackets and it is clear there is a significant drop from the 3 seed line to the 4 seed line. I don't think there is much drop from the 1's to the 3's though. There is a tremendous advantage in being a 1 seed in that you can conceivably avoid another team capable of winning the tournament until the Elite Eight. The 3 seeds are going to be really, really good whereas the 4 seeds are just the best of the also-rans. So even if they flip us with UNC in the South as the 1/2, as the 1 we'd have a huge advantage by not having to potentially play a 3 seed significantly better than the 4 or 5 seed. Now watch Bama get us today and kill the dream.

I guess the big question is would there be any way for us to not land in Indianapolis for the opening pod? I feel like we'd be locked in there by this point with the way the field has gone down around us in the last month, but you never know.

Indy would mean we play on my birthday. For as long as I've been alive, this is a great thing.

I think you have to bounce UNC out of the 1 seeds. Like Chad said, their resume is just o.k. and they have 7 losses. Just because the talking heads say they are the best team, doesn't make it so. I don't see how you keep the Pac-12 from getting a 1 seed. You have 3 teams in the Top 7 and none of them are going to get a 1 seed? If Arizona wins their tourney, they will have 2 wins over Top 5 teams at a neutral site this weekend. The only outside chance we have at a 1 seed is if the committee decides that Gonzaga is not worthy, that they had to go undefeated.

We were preseason "OMG 40-0 super team" in 2014, started losing games, were roundly mocked for it, got **** right at the conference tournament and got an eight seed for it. Duke goes through the same process and gets every benefit of the doubt, any time all year they play a semi-competent half of basketball it's "HOLY ****, UNLEASH THE KRAKEN!!!!!1!1!!!"

Now they pull their **** together in their conference tournament just like we did, and here comes their two seed. Guess what? Grayson Allen is still a psychopath who could break at any moment, Harry Giles is still a shell of a man, Marques Bolden is still trapped in the Springfield Mystery Spot, and this team still has plenty of flaws and is capable of some very mediocre basketball. A couple of good halves doesn't change any of that. Frank Jackson is emerging and that's huge for them, but this team isn't suddenly a juggernaut now because it never was.

Duke is making some killer adjustments on the fly. Coach K swallowing his pride and going zone against Louisville was fantastic. I'm not really even sure what they specifically did against North Carolina because they didn't go zone. But UNC went quite stupid once they got that big lead, plus their foul trouble messed with them with Berry having to sit for a couple stretches.

As far as media reaction, there's nothing humans love more than being right and Duke seemingly putting it all together vindicates what those guys were saying at the beginning of the season. Whereas (justifiably) I don't think anybody was ever really feeling it like that about us in 2014.
