Tennessee
LSU (can almost exclusively recruit La and Houston and do well).
Georgia
Bama

Yup, and I'm not entirely sure LSU shouldn't be above Tennessee. LSU is in the SEC West, has an almost exclusive recruiting territory of outrageous athletes, Shaq, some good tradition, a solid fanbase by SEC basketball standards, a good arena, an effing real life tiger on campus, ridiculous co-eds -- the works really for solid program.

It is kind of ridiculous that they haven't been better since Dale Brown retired. After they inevitably fire Johnny Jones, they should bring Dale back for a one year victory lap. He can't be worse than what they've got now, even if he's senile.

There are a lot of SEC schools that ought to be embarrassed that year in, year out effing Vandy fields a better squad.

I am absolutely convinced there is a large underground cuck ring involving UK athletics that will eventually bring the program down and that nasty b is one of the leaders of the cult. Just what I gather from her twitter posts at least

Where does Mickie DeMoss fit into this theory?

Updated Ken Pom Ranking after TN:

Overall #7

Off # 7
Def # 13

Side note on post game show with Pratt Swipa said he developed tendinitis his foot from favoring his ankle so much. It is now about healed as well as the ankle.

Jones on is post game said he is hearing Fox is still about a week away from being 100%. I think that coincides with how well he played last night. Looked much like he did in Nov-Dec and him getting healthy is big for this team. Had a gear we haven't seen in over a month last night.

Where are all the "Kentucky is back" articles this morning from the CBB world? There would be calls to arrange a trophy presentation at Cameron if Duke had beaten a team they had lost to the previous month by 25 in the rematch.

Just to be clear, I don't think 'we're back'. I do think things are finally trending in the right direction. Bama game showed that the defense was back on the right track. Tennessee game showcased the offense. Now it is time to show that it can be sustained.

Heard a stat on the radio last night that Hawkins actually played more minutes than Briscoe. Surprised by that. I don't think that's a bad thing. I think Cal is finally coming around on the lineups that work and the ones that don't. Super big is out. Smaller is in. Less Mulder. More Hawkins. Wynyard experiment looks done. Can't have Willis and Monk both off the floor at the same time. Court gets too small.

Is there any chance that Bam has a sophomore campaign? He could definitely benefit. He will have someone else to be a rim protector. Work on the 15' jump shot. Work on holding on to the damned ball. If I am that kid and I'm projected into the 20's or later, I take a long hard look at coming back. If you can jump from 27 to 15, it pretty well evens out money wise. He needs to look at Patterson as a model for his game.

Fox looked back at full strength/speed for the first time in weeks last night. His third and fourth fouls late were total BS. One was a clean strip in the post when their big put the ball on his hip and Fox came from behind and slapped right down on the ball. The other was the jump ball in the lane. The official under the basket actually signaled jump ball, but was overruled by the other ref on the wing.

Man, that's just what I needed. Keep building and we're going to be hell on wheels in March. The defense has made some major strides. The passing is terrific. Individuals are starting to get it. And ww got that swagger back.

Big test Saturday. Georgia always plays us tough.

Success this year could be as simple as making sure two things happen in every game:
  • We get production from the 4 spot. Neither Willis or Gabriel are reliable in the least, but when one of them is playing decent we are an entirely different team.

  • Monk avoids hero ball.

It was nice to watch a game in which we didn't turn it over ever third possession, half of those on walks.

That's been as much of an issue as anything.

Of course, as coolcat pointed out, we didn't spend most of our half court sets trying to force it to Bam from bad angles when he's double teamed. I just think of that D'antoni video of him talking about running down the floor to take the worst shot in bball.

The whole point of post ups is to get shots at the rim...well, with Fox healthy and Zay, we get plenty of shots at the rim. We don't really need to be posting anyone unless Bam has his guy pinned for that baseline drop step. That's it.

I think Cal is finally coming around on the lineups that work and the ones that don't. Super big is out. Smaller is in.

Have we seen a frontcourt of Willis, Gabriel, and Bam at any time since the new year? I can't remember it happening but I may be missing it.

In November, I remember a few occasions where Willis and Gabriel looked to have some chemistry. I'm kind of surprised that we haven't seen it experimented with more since it appears to allow Cal to stay big but also have offense on the floor.

The fact that Willis and Gabriel are world class ****** defenders probably has something to do with it, as well as the fact that you can't really do much with Briscoe as a point guard and the offense needs Monk on the floor as much as possible.

Still, while Hawkins is better player and a helluva lot more lovable than Willis, we are giving up a lot if he's subbing for Briscoe at the 3. That works for Tennessee but is not a good consistent strategy.

If you can put Monk and Willis on opposite sides of the court and get good ball movement, one of them will eventually get a good look or you'll get a shot at the rim in the form of a Fox/Briscoe layup or Bam dunk.

Especially with that perimeter ball movement last night.

The passing was really on point last night. Coaches love tracking one-mores. Last night was probably the most one-mores we've had in a game since Texas A&M.

And even when they weren't doing one-mores, the spacing was outstanding. We shot them out of the zone and then when they went man, we caught them in so many mismatches. Felt like we were getting one of their bigs on a bad switch on Fox a bunch in that game. Loved the play where Briscoe signaled for Bam to come out to set up the pick & roll, but then as soon as Bam's man took one step with him, Briscoe went the other way, shook his guy and got the unmolested baseline layup.

The overall energy and way we zipped the ball around looking for the best shot possible really jumped out to me.

Monk was going after balls and made some really nice passes after driving and drawing the D.

Another little thing I noticed last night that wouldn't have happened a few weeks ago; the ball went out of bounds under our own basket with three seconds on the shot clock. We sub Bam for Humphries. Run a perfect play to get Monk a 12' jump shot on the catch. Splash. Just great recognition of the situation and execution of the right play.

I work at Beam and I know your dad. Tom is a good guy who knows his bourbon and how to run a distillery. It was a big loss for us when he left. We are bottling his stuff tomorrow. I believe my boss told me it was going to be $100 a bottle.

Awesome. He wouldn't tell me **** about it. I had to find out about it on Google. Its just the way he is.

Heard from a source that Booker said on super secret B-Team text thread that all Extravaganza attendees will be getting a bottle at cost.

That's great news.

- New Orleans flight booked! First time since 2003, and also get to introduce the lass to PTI and the Big Easy. I'm pumped.

- @Joey Rupption yeah I've always loved east Newport. Mansion Hill is one of my favorite places in NKy, and with the trend of urban chic, of course, my millennial fiancé is all about it. There are some really cool spots within walking distance. I just don't know if we'll be able to find something that isn't a dump in our price range. I'm not a big fixer upper kind of dude. We'll see.

- Thoughts on Ryan Adams?

(and no F'ing "Summer of '69" jokes, UCL or MaxP!)

Regarding the Humphries stat - the KSR people were joking about tweeting "game over" or something along those lines when he scores. That's perfectly fine if he scores in the 2nd half when UK is up 20. However, if one of those idiots pulls that in the NCAAT when he scores in the first 10 minutes of a game....:uzi:.

-Anth rule for Cal lineups has always been 3 scorers on the floor at all times. This year it swings more toward 2 shooters. I don't think Mulder should be the guy out. I think Gabriel should be.

-we also played the inbounds and put 2 men in the paint.

-that's 6 of the last 8 halves that we've played pretty well.

is that a knoxville reference?
I'm not sure about your intentions, Willy

Hi Wyvern!

It's a Bellevue, KY reference. Ol' Chad is getting domesticated and is looking to put down some roots. His wife wants Mansion Hill, but his wallet wants Bellevue. Should be an interesting battle.

It seemed we hit every one of those shots off the secondary break where we had the weird underhand handoff. Is that a tweak?

You mean like that idiot Matthew Lawrence playing "We Are The Champions" during the GD pre-game show before the 2014 title game?

Still makes my blood boil.
