That's the only game he's had of ours all season. I looked it up on Jon Scott's site before I made the post.

I just remember cussing at him quite a few times that game.

But you are right, he used to do a lot of our games.

Considering how terrible most of you sports parents are, I hope to god the officiating fees surge, and your children are priced out of competition. The world would be a better place, imo.

Pretty much the opposite of what would happen. The wealthier the parent, the more entitled, the less likely they know about the sport, the more they complain.

I'd rather umpire some south end catholic school games for free than get paid to do it on the east end of town.

How are these ******** allowed to even try to run up and down the floor and keep up with these athletes?

Like Tony Greene. He and Cal seem to have a good rapport. He's fair. Even don't mind Shows. He's consistent.

Ayers was in Tuscaloosa on Sat. That guy can get royally pumped. Between Ayers, Luckie and the former Miss State baseball players officiating the SEC it's downright atrocious. Do better Sankey.

Both my boys umpire. About $16/game for 7/8 machine pitch (1:15), Around $25 for 9/10 & 11/12 games (1:30). The older group 13-15, I think they get paid around $40 (2 hour games). Great way to make a few extra bucks, tax-free...if you can put up with the coach/parent BS.

Disney last week with the wife. She worships WDW. Perfect weather, good meals, and took advantage of every opportunity to booze there. All while sharing a hotel with about a thousand 12-15 y.o. rude Brazilian girls.

Got home yesterday to find that our house sitter (wife's aunt) had rearranged the pantry, kitchen cabinets, linen closet, and laundry room while tearing up two light fixtures and a hanging picture all in the name of house cleaning. :weary:

Beyonce is still a smoke show, but that **** last night was unwatchable. The level of pretentiousness was off the charts.

The Time and Bruno Mars with the Prince tribute was solid. Metallica and Gaga should have been great, except for the microphone fail.

Sturgill wins best Country Album for the one album he's made that really isn't country. Still glad he won.

NIT going to 10-minute quarters and resetting team fouls after each quarter. Like this. Hopefully, cbb fully moves to quarters and 1 TV timeout after the 5-minute mark.

Someone on Rafters posted that according to KenPom, the SEC ranks 2nd out of all 30-something CBB leagues in FTA-to-FGA ratio so its not just us UK fans. The SEC is far and away the worst of the bigtime leagues, too.

There's no question this trigger happy officiating has had an impact on how our guys defend. They weren't great to begin with, but getting whistled every time they lay a finger on an opponent has really screwed with them. They play defense like they're coached by Mike Major.

Hope against hope this doesn't come back to bite us in the Tournament.

"Wait a minute. You mean I can put a body on the guy I'm guarding and it's not a foul?"

Scorekeeping was more fun than umping and paid pretty decent for a 12 yr old. The added bonus was hooking up the mic and mispronouncing names until a parent came to correct you only so you could do it again before threatening to put Johnny down for an error.

*I umpired some Pee Wee League games when I was a teenager. Under-hand coach pitch, the entire lineup gets to bat each side, etc...once had to throw an old man out because he wouldn't stop bitching at me about balls and strikes. I was 16, he was probably 65.

*In a nutshell here is what I hate about college basketball "analysts": Listening to SiriusXM's college basketball show Sunday morning, and they are talking about the seeding. They talk about Gonzaga being under-seeded and they bring up Tennessee as a good win for them. In the very next breath, when they are talking about Kentucky, they bring up how Tennessee was a bad loss. I mean, Jesus Christ, at least attempt to be consistent for 30 seconds of air time.

LOVED watching the media darling Virginia lose to Va Tech in double OT last night. Different style of defense than UL but they foul way more than they get actually called on.

That and London Perrantes drives me crazy. Thinks he's so cool out there on the court. He did something I've never seen in college ball. He was driving for a layup in crunch time and the ball stayed on top of the breakaway rim box. Jump ball.

He really is the most "too cool for school" player I've ever seen...but he's a baller.

We had a game one time at Arkansas where we were down by 2 and Jamaal Magloire went for a tip to tie the game and this exact thing happened. Held ball, Arkansas gets it, Pat Bradley makes 2 FTs, we lose.

* If college is going to adapt one big time NBA rule, I don't know if I'd rather it be 10 minute quarters or 6 fouls for a DQ. I used to think 6 fouls but with the way the game has been officiated, I can't imagine this being as efficient as the way the NBA does it.

Ask yourself- would you ref youth games?

About 15 years ago I reffed some Upward basketball games in Lawrenceburg and it was awful. I did 2 games: 5-6 year old boys basketball and 5th and 6th grade girls basketball. The stuff I heard for parents for an upward event blew my mind. Never again. It also gave me some respect for what they do. I think reffing/umping youth sports is actually much worse than pro sports because the crowd/parents are so close and you can hear everything.

I don't get an adult wanting to do Disney without kids. Mind you, that isn't criticism, I legitimately just don't understand it.

Seems awful. What is the appeal?

Perrantes is the way too cool for school not as good but can shoot it version of Slo Mo. Dude seems like he's in total control of the game and the pace.

Almost fell out my chair at Rumor's last night watching that ball stay on top of the breakaway rim
box followed by the official signaling jump ball.

It really is embarrassing for the parents/coaches who *get it* how some of these people act. 3rd graders bitching about the refs in an Upward game and whatnot. Life!

Little secret about youth sports------->the refs don't give a f*ck who wins, they just want it to be over and soon as possible

Confession:

I once made a wrong call on purpose so the game would end and I could get the f*ck out of there. Little Johnny was up in the bottom of the last inning (I think they played 6). Two runners on, down two runs. Little Johnny tries for an inside the park homerun, but he's out at the plate by about a foot------------> false, because I said false. Little Johnny hit a walk off.

Getting hammered/high and riding rides. At least that was the appeal of Universal to me. Haven't ventured to Disney yet.

I get drunk/mushrooms King's Island. That's sloppy fun.

I mean going to a Disney resort or Disney World for a vacation as an adult. Kids every where. It is sterile. They're playing Its A Small World or whatever. Seems utterly awful.

Umping baseball, any level, was infinitely better than umping softball, any level. The worst, though, were adult women's softball. :scream: Those bitches were crazy. And since there weren't any kids around, they let loose with every profanity in the book. I umped one of those games, and refused to ump another one. As far as parents go, the worst I ever encountered was Bob Domine at his daughter's softball game. The most arrogant, obnoxious, condescending parent I dealt with as an ump. I'm pretty sure he was drunk. I guess he felt like reading sports scores on TV made him an expert on any and all sports. Dick.

Chase, that's the one time in history where a parent would have been completely justified in beating the **** out of an umpire in a youth baseball game. Frank Drebin even thinks you're a terrible ump.

Speaking of baseball, I highly recommend "Fastball" on Netflix. It came out last year, so I'm probably late to the party, but I really enjoyed it. It is a fascinating look at the fastball, from the perspective of some of the best fastball pitchers (Ryan, Gossage, Gibson, Chapman, etc), and the batters that faced them (Bench, Brett, Morgan, Schmidt, Kaline, Aaron, etc). What I found most interesting was the huge difference between a 92 mph fastball and a 100 mph fastball. McCutchen (I think) says that you can basically read the writing on the ball at 92 mph, but at 100 mph, good luck. And I thought Chapman had the fastest pitch ever, which he does, officially, but if you adjust for the different methods of measurement over the years, Ryan is actually fastest, with over 108 mph. Feller is next with 107 mph. That's insane. Anyhow, if you've not seen it, check it out.

Didn't Domine act like an *** on the sidelines of some city hs football game and was banned? And ultimately forced wave to "retire" him?
