Bam flipping a coffee table is going to give Porter getting a USC football scholarship offer and Heshimu meaning strong black warrior in Swahili a run for its money with the announcers this year.

Anthony Davis grew in HS.
WCS played football as WR!

Perfect time now to get Mulder some quality PT to keep him in rhythm.

Every time an announcer tells the story of Bam flipping a coffee table while watching the Flintstones, I drop an audible False.

Mulder is in the unenviable position of playing behind three guys Cal wants to put in the lottery and a steady senior lock down defender. It's not that he sucks, it's just that Cal won't play him because he will want to showcase the other guys.

And it will cost us somewhere along the way when we need some outside shots and Cal throws him in there for the first time in 5 games, he misses one shot, and then Cal pulls him and blames it on defense.

Mulder needs some quality minutes every game to stay in the groove, period.

Same with Willis tbh.
-Should've played more but deserved to find that bench after his lackluster lazy *** 1st 5 minutes.

-Fox :raised_hands:

-Do wish he'd get Mulder some more reps. Not all zones will be pushing out like they were allowing our guards to get in the middle of it. Going to need two shooters. I'm ok with a rotating 8th man depending on what we need that game.

-Saying this as fair warning. Back off Monk. Back the f*ck off. That's it.

-Love Gabriel. What a ball of fun.

-IZack is playing. He gets lost occasionally but man, that kid is going to be a force in the future.

-Rupp improvements -> Live Stats, Big Board, lighting, CFA giving a free chicken sandwich if an opposing player misses both FTs.
-Rupp misses -> Timeout jockeys yelling at us, removing C-A-T-S pregame for that stupid "Ready or not" horseracing video from football, DJ Warren Peace, checkerboard UK flag.

-WCC sighting. Excellent dome. Maybe the best in GYERO.

The New Rupp Jumbotron is a game changer. Awesome.

The sideline antics are terrible, but mercy the stems on that Maria. :fire:

Great seeing WCC. That beard oil is working wonders.

Same with Willis tbh.

Postgame:

JOHN CALIPARI: We’ve still got some issues at the four. Most of the guarding and rebounding. So now, the questions is, do you play Bam at four and let one of those other kids play five? And let Bam guard the four and rebound. And now you either go with Isaac or Sacha and you go to a big team, and let those other guys play some three? Because you’ve got, we just cannot have one position that's not guarding, that's not rebounding the way they should.

--

Q. What can they do to get better on the boards?
JOHN CALIPARI: Maybe put better rebounders in. How about that one? Just say, if you're not rebounding, I'm not playing you. I'll come down to this again, I said it to them today - whoever defends better between Dom and Mychal, I'll play. Whoever defends better and rebounds, between Wenyen and Derek, I'll play. Whoever rebounds and defends better between Sacha and Isaac, I'll play. Because, offensively, they're about the same. So we're not going to lose anything offensively. And now we put our best defenders and rebounders on the floor, you won't believe this, we're going to defend and rebound better. And make them fight it out. Let's go. I wish we were, had a chance to play them all, but it's not how this stuff works.

Very concerning. We need Willis's shooting, end of story.

Against Michigan State, going big might be the right call, though. We're getting killed on the boards, and you know Izzo's guys will take full advantage.

Teams will eventually stop crashing the glass and start getting back if Fox keeps pushing like a mad man. But Willis has to play a little d.

I have zero concerns about this team, shooting included. This is a deep, coachable team. We'll take some losses but we'll also improve as the season progresses. Come March we'll be where we need to be. My concern is the other elite squads. Lots of tough competition out there. We may reach our potential and still not be the best team. Just one of those years. I like my team though.

This has probably already been done, but what's the plans for those heading to NY tomorrow?

I'm guessing the Beans are already sitting at a table at Dempsey's[cheers]

-Hopefully Shai works out. Cal hasn't done well with those 4* guards since he's been here. Props to Goodman who is out trying to tell the world that "Kentucky got their PG, now they just need some wings!!" I see what you're doing potato head. Stop it.

-Ummm so next week in NYC for a wedding then Bahamas? What? That came on fairly quick. Swore I had 1 more full week in between.

-Find it hard to believe Denver winter is less brutal, considering I've been there 3 times in the winter and it was indeed BRUTAL. Thankfully I was there to ski. Still seems like an amazing place to live.

"Of course he won Kentucky, that's where all the racists are." "All of em are in Kentucky?" :scream:
^Skit is amazing.

-Gave my word I wouldn't say anything, but hey this is gyero and we're all family, appears to be a new GYEROMANCE blooming. [jumpingsmile]

-Little G loves the games. Pretty neat to watch him take it all in.

I like this post but I don't totally agree with all of it.

My concern isn't the shooting necessarily as it is with the rebounding. I think Cal hit it right on the head in regards to Willis getting his nose dirty and hitting the glass. I think our best-case lineup features him at the 4 and Bam at the 5. But Cal is going to find it hard to justify leaving Willis out there if he's getting beat up. He's at least got to hold his own down there.

So if Willis eventually forces Cal's hand and goes big with Bam at the 4 and the Aussie/SKJ at the 5, I think you're going to lose a lot of that special potential found in that 'small-ball' makeup. I don't want to sound alarmist two games in... but Willis staying on the floor rebounding and defending with at least decent production could be whether or not this team reaches optimum. He *needs* to be out there bringing the bigs out/stretching the floor or you'll see teams begin to pack it in even more.

- Monk does indeed some SECW 'dumb' in him, but he's nowhere close to Goodwin in terms of IQ/playmaking. He's a willing passer and understands the game. It's just a question of him keeping that light on. I think he's always coasted and Cal isn't going to put up with it. He's dealing with a coach that is really pushing him and holding him accountable and it's been an adjustment. Dude will be OK.

I know this much...Derek Willis picked the worst possible day to have a real stinker. It wasn't just the defense/rebounding. Dude was passing up open shots from his sweet spots on the court. Willis didn't flinch on one corner three all year last year. Of course, if I had to be awesome every game or else go straight to the doghouse, I'd probably suck every now and then as well.

Bam doesn't run the floor on defense. A lot of the offensive rebounds we've given up have been the result of teams getting out on the break and our top rebounder has just crossed the timeline by the time the shot is put up. And of course, nobody on the team blocks out except for Isaac Humphries. Correctable.

Gotta watch for the flops tomorrow. They're coming. As great as this team is at getting to the rack and finishing (SO good at this, you guys), we're susceptible to the flop and referees love calling charging fouls more than they love their wives and children.

All that in mind, I have a good feeling about this one. I don't think our young guys will be shell shocked by the bright lights the way '13 and '14 were. Fox will shine.
