If you look at it as investing in "fun", which it is, I don't see the issue. Ron Mehico pays $300+++ every other weekend all expenses included to sport formal wear and smoke cigars, b/c that's something he enjoys -- what's the difference?

A solid black suit is completely appropriate for a black tie optional wedding. It is not a faux pas in any way.
...and I don't make my boys look like ******** in the process. Which I'm much more worried about than wearing a tux but we'll see. Headed over there now, I'll keep y'all posted. The couple is really really laid back and won't give a f*ck either way.

Go deal with your bat infestation.

Regardless of whether or not a black suit is appropriate for black tie (it's not), the bigger issue is why any of these people think their weddings are important enough to call for black tie.

"Can you *imagine* having a non semi-formal wedding?!?! Our reputation in society would be RUINED"

Not sure what planet you idiots are from that think a black suit isn't appropriate for black tie optional.

OPTIONAL.

Lack of a gag reflex is funny to the masses, unless you have a cranial nerve palsy or a tumor.

OPTIONAL just provides a little leeway and does not apply to grown men with some sense IMO. Teenagers, college kids, senior citizens, roughnecks... sure.

Grown man? Throw a tux on. Someone's spending a good bit of coin on a nice night for you and that's all they asked.

Again, JMO. And for as southern as you Lexingtonians aim to be, that's pretty standard op down south. TS.

Must say though, I am a little surprised Anth is "taking one for the team" so as to not upstage his non-tux wearing friends.

Unless I'm getting married, or in it, I'm not wearing a tux to a wedding. So if it's required send my invitation to someone else, because I'm not coming.

And I'm never purchasing a tuxedo. F*ck that nonsense.

Beaver Dam redneck checking in. Me and all my ***** friends will be down a Dumas Walker's having a bottle of ski.

You're not a redneck. You're just not a pretentious ****. No offense, SAE! :victory:

Here comes a snobby, snide remark directly or indirectly about my lack of class.

Anth will look sharp and no one will care that he's not wearing a tux. Few, if any, of the other men will be either. Granted, if he throws on a red tie and brown shoes it could be an issue, but Sloot won't let that happen. IMHO, it's ok to wear a tux if you're in the wedding party or if it's white or black tie. Otherwise, I think the guests should dress slightly less formal than the wedding party. You don't want to take a chance on upstaging the groom and his groomsmen. I picture SAE strutting into a black tie optional wedding in a top hat, tails, cane, and spats, with "Puttin on the Ritz" playing in the background, walking by the groomsmen and smirking while letting an exasperated *sigh* escape his lips.

If you are a man, no one cares what you wear to a wedding. Not even the groom and groomsmen. TS. It's all about the bride and whatever abomination she's forced her bridesmaids to wear.

Never really noticed or understood that brides went out of their way to make their bridesmaids look less attractive until I had a girlfriend who was in 10 weddings in one year. Find it pretty hilarious. Also enjoy how it's understood among the hens. :joy:
