-I love my grilled thick burgers, they're great, but the smash burger technique is hard to pass up. Other than smoking up the house, it's perfect. Need American cheese next time and a regular hamburger bun.

-Don't get fooled by the Reds. Not happening.

-I'll be out there with MCF and a few others on Friday. [cheers] Weather is supposed to be a perfect April day.

-Also, put in a 10 hour effort on Friday and then followed up with a nice little dinner party drunk Sat/Sun. Whoops. Then slept like **** last night. Might break my no caffeinated drinks rule.

-Get my wife back next week. Next tax season, we're getting a cleaning lady. Literal and figurative line in the sand. House isn't 'dorm room' but it is certainly approaching 'bachelor pad'. I suck at household chores.

-Dad called yesterday and was all excited about the Reds. Think I'll reserve judgment until after the new position players have to face the same pitching a second or third time and the new pitchers have to face the same hitters a second or third time. Plus, they'll go to St. Louis and lose 2/3 this week regardless of how things go in Chicago. It is known.

-Game of Thrones premiered last night in LA. Only 13 days until it is back on HBO. Could be the best season of the show ever.

-Tomorrow is my basset's birthday. He'll be 7. Starting to look his age. Will be devastated when the day comes that he passes. I have a golden too, but am not as close to him.

-Thursday can hurry the hell up. This weather today is garbage.

-Felt good to get the first mow out of the way. Pretty positive the neighbors were about to riot, because I was THAT GUY who hadn't done it yet.

-Knew better than to leave the house at 5:00 yesterday afternoon for my kid's practice, but Spieth was just showing no signs of letting it go. Westwood One's radio coverage was surprisingly solid(for golf), and that was a nice lifeline, even if I did have to sit through Chris Cross commercials on 1300 AM.

-Takeaways from the Nike Hoop Summit.....I'm not just saying this because it's Duke, but seriously, K is gonna have to really be good at getting Allen and Tatum the touches they're gonna require next year. Tatum passed up plenty of easy assist opportunities so he could GET HIS, and I don't see that slowing down once he knows he's on the clock, NBA-wise, and on national TV every night.

Loved what I saw from Gabriel(crazy motor), and Fox(much more settled than in the McD game). Not impressed with Ayton at all, but then again, he was playing with a bunch of tomato cans, so hard to tell much. GYERO has already gone over the Ferguson love. Sucks that we're not in on him.

-Had always seen Petty listed as a 6-5 shooting guard. Pleasantly surprised to see him listed an inch or two higher and plugged into the 3 spot.

-So from a Kentucky fan perspective, what school do you want Josh Jackson picking today? Any of the three(KU, Zona, MSU) would just make them that much stronger, but I think I want him paired with Alkins and Simmons than with the veterans of the other two teams. Let Sean Miller deal with that train of egos out West.

So we don't have a hail mary play to get Ferguson huh? That's a shame I only watched the first half and he was incredible.

Austin is a cool town. Honestly, if you're a college kid or a young professional, I'm not sure it gets any better. And everyone we dealt with was friendly as hell. Good food, too.

And I hesitate to post this, but we stood in line for 2+ hours on Saturday for La Barbecue, the joint run by John Lewis (who used to run Franklin's). The brisket was outstanding - certainly the best I've had - but I'm not sure it's that much better than Blue Door's at its best. Which shocked the hell out of me because La Barbecue is allegedly one of the top 2 or 3 joints in town. The sausage there was great, and they were out of beef ribs (which are apparently a revelation) by the time I got to the counter, but if you stood Blue Door and La Barbecue next to each other and told me I would have to wait 2 hours for brisket at one of them, I would go to the other. Again, no one is as shocked by this as me, but I guess there's a point where barbecue can only be so good. It's also a pretty good tribute to those Blue Door guys.

Only thing I hated about Austin was the traffic. Pure hell.

Franklin's was a 4-hour deal. Got there at 8:30am, was at the counter ordering just before 12:30. Lawn chairs for rent, and several UT students came prepared with their own coolers of beer. They also had someone coming through the line selling alcohol, water, and soda. Tried it all- brisket, pork, sausage, turkey. All were the best or close to the best I've ever had. It needed no sauce, but the Espresso BBQ sauce is crack in a bottle. Brought two bottles back, and I ran out way too quickly.

If I ever do it again, I'll order way in advance and pick it up at 11am and go find a picnic table somewhere.

NCAA will make over a billion on the NCAAT alone. UK gets 20 Million from the SEC every year from a TV deal. A :30 commercial in a UK game is $20,000 and you have a hard time finding them. Cal/Saban/Pitino etc make like 7 million dollars a year.

Yet we pawn it off on a free education when we all know they're being used as a marketing tool.

This has been a business since the shoe companies stepped in back in the 80's. To think otherwise is silly.

So yes, despicable is a perfect word for it.

Free gear, though.

Good-to-great BBQ is better than ****** BBQ, of course.

But I just have a hard time believing any certain place is that much better than another good-to-great BBQ. No different than a steak, pizza, or anything else.

Made $550,000 last year. Couldn't punch it in from the 5" yard line at Vandy, though. Too hard.

If I hadn't had "good" brisket before, I would've **** my pants at what I had. Again, it's a compliment to the Blue Door guys.

Tatum will be a mercenary *** ***** and said as much for reasons I was willing to discuss after the first McD scrimmage. Will be interesting to see if K puts up w/ that GET MINE nonsense with such a loaded team. I seriously doubt Tatum will get up the 5th most shots LOL'ing all the way to the bank.

- Consequently jumped off the Stoops ship after above mentioned Vandy game. 1st and goal twice on the effing 1 yard line with absolutely nathan to show for it? Countless drops? 8 guys on the punt return team? Duped on a playground fake field goal TD? No thanks.

Michael Phelps makes tens of millions of dollars a year as an amateur athlete in a completely irrelevant, non revenue Olympic sport. Of course, he's a model white citizen, so that's cool. The sanctity of Olympic competition has been saved.

Great analogy! Except…

1) He no longer has NCAA eligibility, which is what we are talking about, not the olympics.

2) There is no popular professional swimming league he could join and ruin his amateur status.

3) There are professionals in pretty much all sports eligible for the olympics, so not sure what your point is?

4) What does being white have to do with it? You are sooooo New Orleans now.

Should have taken BBdK's advice on screening customer service reps because I managed to get an unhelpful one when I called Amazon this morning, which I didn't think was possible.

Ordered something that was in stock and shipped from the Amazon facility in Campbellsville last Tuesday, it didn't ship until Friday, which was the day after I was expecting it with 2 day shipping, it then went from Campbellsville to Hebron, completely passing up Lexington over the weekend, and was then scanned in Virginia this morning [laughing].

Lady I talked to just said if I don't get it by tomorrow they'll issue a refund. WTF?

Related: They have Columbia long sleeve PFG shirts for $28-$35 right now, which is a good deal, but good luck.

4 hours for some BBQ? No chance, and I love BBQ and Aaron Franklin's youtube channel. I hate lines.

Best way to deal with Amazon customer service is to open. A ticket through their website. Usually get a refund, a credit of some sort, and still get the item.

That's what I did, just got a terrible rep, didn't even get a month of prime added on which I though was standard.

New Game of Thrones trailer. Looks like it's going to be awesome.

Also intrigued by the new Bloodline trailer that came out recently. Had kind of thought that it might have just been better as a mini series, but season two looks like it'll be great too.

So are fraternity parties at the frat houses or all off campus these days? Did UK's campus go back to wet or is it all still dry?

They're still all off campus. And I know they were thinking about making the transition to wet, but in the sense of you had to have registered events, have to get alcohol through a 3rd party, etc. So, still dry, essentially.

At least SAE and WCC just long for their college days. Bob refuses to acknowledge them being 20 years in the past.

I have no interest in going to fraternity parties.

I am interested in hearing about them tho...Slice anything to report?

Seems like a good idea. Have a bunch of college kids have parties off campus so they can all drive back home later.... nothing could go wrong there.
We (and every other fraternity on campus) always have 4 or 5 drivers whose numbers get sent out via mass text, and forwarded to sorority social chairs/girls who are coming to the parties. But if you get caught with drivers who are pledges, it is somehow considered a form of hazing, because they wouldn't want to be driving otherwise. So stupid.

I'm a nostalgic person by nature. I like where I am in life, but look back fondly on my college days and 20s. It was fun.

Let's be real, Bob would be at a frat party in a overworked ribeye clogged heart beat, if he got an invite. Dude would be all over it. Dropping, "DOCTOR!! Bob. Would you like to check out my Porchse? Should we get a group and head back to my hot tub?"

[laughing]

No. I've been touting for years the half plus 7 doctrine. Please try to keep up.

And for Christ's sake learn to spell. If you're gonna try and insult someone try not to look stupid while you do it.

I feel sorry your parents spent money on your education.

Well if you bring lawn chairs and beer, it's sort of like tailgating, except the payoff is the best BBQ you'll ever eat instead of a called running play with no timeouts and under a minute to go.

But again, the pro move next time is call ahead a couple of weeks and pick it up when they open.

^ Or, throw a pork shoulder in a slow cooker, add seasoning and a good beer, and leave over night. Turn in the morning, leave for another few hours. Add BBQ sauce with a good porter (or other dark beer to taste), toast a brioche bun on the grill. Profit.
