I have a sombrero controversy of my own brewing on the homefront. The theme to my son's first birthday party is "Dragons Love Tacos." In an effort of maximum fun, my cute-as-hell dog will be wearing a taco costume for the duration.

Well guess what? It comes with a sombrero at no extra cost.

My wife said he won't be wearing the sombrero because people consider it offensive. My counterpoint is that she can't guard that damn dog's noggin 24/7 during her baby's birthday party and he will wear it.

*As a show of force, I mocked up an invite with a picture of her wearing a sombrero taken years ago during a "Taco Tuesday" party. She immediately dismissed it as, "a different time," (2009). But, now I have the ammo to go thermonuclear if that pet headware goes missing between now and the party.

We are going to get IU or Duke early in the NCAA aren't we?

If one were so inclined, you could come up with a good conspiracy theory regarding Chancy and Matt Jones' mole...I, for one, am not because I like Matt having a completely protected source or sources within the UL program.

"You find me any place, REPUTABLE place, that sells tacos that doesn't have a sombrero featured in its décor scheme or as a prop to bring out for your birthday and I'll keep the adorable doggie hat to myself but until then THE SOMBRERO STAYS ON THE DAMN DOG." <---- that's your play right there

But if Chauncey is the mole and we drove him underground, then really GYERO took down UL and our work here is done.

If we are a 3 seed, we probably avoid both.

Pictures of white people in sombreros at a kid's "Dragons Love Tacos" party, on the wall of your local Mexican joint as proof that they ate a 5 pound burrito: fine and harmless Americana

Picture of a university president and his staff (and our GYERO mole) dressed in sombreros, ponchos, and fake mustaches for whatever: bad optics

The fact people can't pick up on these differences makes me think maybe more people SHOULD go to law school.

It's a pretty ridiculous time in our society when a sombrero is considered offensive. Not that I don't love the Ramsey fallout because it is funny, but completely stupid nonetheless.

True.

It's like a cowboy getting offended by someone pretending to be a cowboy by wearing a cowboy hat.

"How dare you accurately depict how we dress!"

You look around and there aren't many great 2nd round opponent options on that 4/5/6 line. In fact, we probably match up better with Duke and Indiana than most of them.

I'm not offended by much of anything, so I don't care one way or the other, but it's always surprised me how outwardly honks were allowed to mock Mexicans when doing such things to other groups- blacks, asians, etc.- would've resulted with the fury of hell.

A sombrero is not offensive. This is offensive.

IU losing that game probably ends any likelihood of a 2nd Round or a Sweet 16 matchup with them. Don't see how any scenario would play out where both teams are a 4/5 or a 2/3

Michigan is a bad defensive team and it felt like Indiana couldn't get a basket in the second half if their lives depended on it. Nothing but free throws. On their last offensive trip Indiana made 4-5 drives that likely would have resulted in layups but they were looking to draw fouls instead and when the fouls didn't come, they kicked it back out, hence the bad possession.

Meanwhile Michigan got an easy and1, a wide open corner 3 and that buzzer beater on their last three trips. Tom Crean now, Tom Crean tomorrow, Tom Crean forever, Tom Crean 4 life.

* No real shock that Seton Hall dropped Adidas for Under Armour, got amazing throwbacks and started winning again. And Luther Wright is a DJ at their home games and I think Shaheen Holloway is on their coaching staff. Good times.

Both Big East games today could be sick. Providence/Villanova and Seton Hall/X. Providence beat Nova back in January and Seton Hall whipped X last week.

* Tennessee beats LSU today. Hunch after watching the last LSU game. They just have the look of a team that's had enough.

* Unless it's a 4-5 matchup, Kentucky won't see Indiana for a while, unless our dudes lose today and get hit hard by the committee. We aren't technically allowed to see Duke again until the sweet 16 since we played this season. I know they try to avoid regular season rematches in the first 2 rounds.

* Fun NBA fact: The Knicks and Heat played 24 playoff games between 1997 and 2000. The average score was 88-79. That isn't good defense. It's the worst offense.

* A word on Jim Boeheim: Syracuse tied their game against Pittsburgh by going to a full court press and literally forcing 5 turnovers in a row. What did he do as soon as they tied it up? Went back to that blessed 2-3 zone. Pitt scored their next 2 trips. He also sat Trevor Cooney for 12 minutes of game time and probably 45 minutes of real time before reinserting him for the last shot. You can guess what happened. He sucks. I badly want Syracuse out of the tournament this year. Whatever it takes to get that done, let it be.

* Good GYERO today. By everybody.

If there's anything I learned form coaching Upward basketball and U6 soccer it's that coaching is incredibly easy if you let your best players do what they're good at.

When i worked with a fraternity years ago as an adviser, I went by the house before an event on Parents Weekend or homecoming or whatever, and the pledges were all over the place cleaning... a kid had apparently asked one of the active members if they could turn on some music- and the active brother obliged. He let them listen to Walk of Life, and only Walk of Life. It had been going on for about 3-4 hours when i showed up.

I did that once as well- only with Neil Diamond's "America".

I like to think there's a small group of men in their late thirties whose eyes twitch a little when they hear the opening synth notes...

$9.99 for a 15 pack of Miller Lite once spring rolled around in the late 90s

Pay that much for a six pack of crafties now
