FWIW, I picked the Cubs (Dena from Chicago) over the Cards (Mel from southern Illinois) and to this day he feels like he's failed as a father. And I'm not even counting the only child ish he's dealt with.

How did that happen? Not being condescending, I'm serious as I don't understand. I can't even recall a point in my life I wasn't a UK, Reds and Bengals fan. Your dad's obviously a huge sports fan. How could you not adopt the Cardinals?

It's a crime what BR has done with a once-great talent.

King was at his best at Yahoo? IIRC... Then he went to **** after he signed on w/ ESPN, seemingly falling off the face of the earth, with the exception of the I'M FROM KC AND I LOVE KANSAS slanted articles from time to time. He sucked well before he went to Bleacher Report.

Weird case. When he was on his game... dude was up there as one of the best in CBB. His rando lists were awesome reading.

His randos were outstanding...even at ESPN, imo. Reminded me of a CBB version of Gene Wojo's old BMOC column. No one else does that now (I guess Seth Davis tried, but he's turrible). Agree a bit on the Kansas slant, though.

- Absolutely love my new job, working my *** off, 16+ hour days...but it's fun.

Every single politician and lobbyist is an alcoholic, not surpring, I know. Our office might as well be Sterling/Cooper. Everyone's office fully stocked, hot secretaries everywhere, and a smokeshow office manager.

- Already been moved from the Omaha office to the Lincoln office next to the Capitol. #Rise

- Had a county commissioner tell me today that casinos are worse than heroin.

- Lincoln > Omaha. Love college towns. *** everywhere.

- Liquor is CHEAP here. Fifth a Pinnacle is $4.99. Still working on stocking my office bar with the good stuff.

- This is the first day I've been home before 9pm. Netflix and chill.
So Tommy went from babysitting community college kids to babysitting politicians. Seems like a lateral move.

Boom, lol roast u politics!

Tommy's move to Nebraska to upset the establishment (whose figurehead is a legendary football coach) has all the makings of one of those 30 year old movies we were just talking about. I mean, it's basically Footloose II.

(taken from imdb)

Classic tale of rebellion and repression features a delightful combination of dance choreography and realistic and touching performances. When 20 something Tommy G. moves from big city Chicago to a small Midwestern town, he's in for a real case of culture shock. Though he tries hard to fit in, the streetwise Tommy can't quite believe he's living in a place where table gaming and racetrack slot machines are illegal. However, there is one small pleasure: (insert girl), a troubled but lovely blonde with a jealous boyfriend. And a Bible-thumping ex-football coach, who is responsible for keeping the state's gambling restricted. Tommy and his colleagues want to do away with this law, especially since baby boomer pensions are around the corner, but only Tommy has the courage to initiate a battle to abolish the outmoded ban and revitalize the spirit of the repressed Midwesterners. Fast-paced drama is filled with such now-famous hit songs as the title track and "Let's Hear It for the Boy".

Cubs were on WGN when I got home from school so I grew up w/ Sandberg, Grace, Hawk, etc.... Mom was a pretty good athlete in her own right and would play catch or rebound for me when dad was out of town. So it wasn't as much rebellion against dad as it was loyalty to my mom.

I get why Payne would leave, but shewee he's got a pretty sweet deal in Lexington. Probably eclipsing a cool million per when it's all said and done. Powerful program. No HC responsibilities.

Would have to be a pretty good mid-tier type job IMO.

I know two dyed-in-the-wool, multi-generational Lexingtonians that are lifelong, diehard Louisville fans.

It's weird as hell.

On a related note, it's amazing how much little kids love Steph Curry. He is their Jordan, and I think him being relatively small only adds to his appeal. On Sunday afternoon, my five-year-old watched the Warriors game by himself while the rest of us were doing other things.

No offense to any of you horse player degenerates, but few things are more depressing to me than old rundown horse tracks

I'll speak for, and what i assume is all two of us in the thread, and say none taken.

Not sure why you would raise your kid as a Reds fan when there's enough tragedy in this world already.

Yep, and that tragedy is housed right next door..:fistbump:

Should have gave him a spanking and then sat him in front of the computer to watch Larry Bird highlights on YouTube.

Kids are weird, highly impressionable, little bandwagoners. You have to watch them.
Oh we tried that **** a few times. MCF was an Oakland A's fan for like 10 minutes during the WS. Dad and I mocked him until he cried.

Not with UK basketball though. There was never a question or option there.

And yes, I'll be a strict Dad. I always had the most strict parents growing up. They were fair though. Incredibly hard workers. Great role models. Very fortunate.

I'm only allowed to like white players? Sorry, bud. I was much more Jordan and Magic back then. Never really liked him. Apologize for letting my race down.

Still remember my older brother going through some Jordan/UNC phase when we were kids. The look on my dad's face when he walked in the house in a UNC hoodie was look of hate, disgust and borderline homicidal rage that I've never seen even to this day. However, there was no beating but kinda found out when your other brother, dad and you relentlessly shame him with hurtful names and not including him in family events, the realization that it's easier to conform than defy comes easy. Now he just pretends like it never happened, which is fine but we still keep an eye on him just to be certain.

Because we're good parents, my wife and I have raised our kids to be UK fans that are trained to actually spit on the ground when they hear someone say "Cardinals". My daughter even has a mature sense of fatalism when it comes to UK and Bengals football.

Unfortunately we also have a situation where we'd REALLY like our kids to go to UC because they get free tuition. So once again, my great parenting skills will wind up kicking me in the ***. Can't win, don't try- that's my advice.
