Alright Wildcat friends, need some life advice here. 05’s high academic recruiting is hot and heavy and we have some decisions to make.
Union (NY) is putting on the full court press. They want him to be the guy. Union has been to the D3 NC Game twice and was most recently in the playoffs a few years ago with an undefeated team. Their hockey team is D1 and won the NCAA Championship in 2014. Ranked #48 in LAC and offering him $30k merit. But their endowment is lower than some of the other schools we are looking at so the grants above the $30k guaranteed are harder to get. Total cost is $175k all in 4 years.
Middlebury is also an option, and ranked #14 LAC. Solid football, wins 6-7 games a year, but can’t go to the playoffs bc it’s in the NESCAC. And he’s their 2nd choice. Extremely high brow but a proven national brand. They own their own ski facility. And the facilities are insane in general. We get medium money in the first year and barely any in Year 2. Total cost is $200k all in 4 years.
Carleton is the other option, and ranked #6 LAC. Located 45 minutes south of Minneapolis. It’s simply one of the most rigorous academic schools in the country. Decent football under the new coach and they win 6-7 games a year. Will never go to the playoffs bc they will never beat St Johns or Bethel. They are offering a huge grant the first year that tapers off in Years 2-4. Total cost is about $150k all in.
For reference, Cal Poly is $125k all in. UC Davis is about $140k all in. Those would be the cheapest public state options we have. These numbers include R&B.
Columbia is still in the mix but they won’t offer until late September. That would be his #1 choice. But he doesn’t have an offer, yet. Cal Poly and Davis are still in the mix but they typically wait until after FBS kids commit.
All advice appreciated! Sam is a great student but has to work at it. And he’s a crazy competitive athlete who hates losing.
