This starting pitcher the Reds added is dope. Props to the Castellini’s for stepping up.

Starting pitching isn’t as big of a concern for this team as bullpen help is. They added a nice lefty specialist, but I’m very disappointed they didn’t find at least one more righty.

Most baseball people seemed to agree that was the wisest move. We’ve got our two best starters returning in 3 weeks.

Yes, we certainly needed the bullpen help too. Some of those guys arms are going to be dead soon. I’m just not confident in both starting pitchers being fully, or even closely, back to form when they return. But I goddamned hope so.

RANDOM FIVE SENSES FOR A TUESDAY:

VISION:

* Got to spend an afternoon with dozens upon dozens of beautiful athletes that will be racing this fall at Keeneland.

These are the four that caught my eye:

- Seek Help (who could very well be a Derby horse contender and has Bob Baffert horse pedigree)
- Aunt Bee (a veteran mare that’s been shipped from the Ohio circuit)
- Gormley’s Gabriela (just an overall great looking young lady that has been successful in Maryland)
- Tapit’s Tale (whose father is one of the top breeders and grandpa on his mom’s side was one that hung with American Pharoah in the Preakness and Belmont Stakes.)

HEARING:

* I'll take Bob Segar's total collection on a road trip or the sound of a silver ball rolling around a roulette wheel as sounds that make me smile.

TOUCH:

* I'd be happy to thumbing through an old-school library's Dewey Decimal System; 900-999, to be precise.

* Feeling a sharp, yet gentle straight razor on the front and back of the neck.

SMELL:

* A fresh Christmas catalogue (Sears/Montgomery Ward/JC Penney) out of the mailbox. I'd give a good amount to have that scent on an early November Saturday, spending the day circling all the things you would want under the tree. Honestly, that never failed. Thankful for the parents that always made it happen, and made that thick advertisement special annually.

* Play-Doh. It just hit.

TASTE:

* Give me cashews in a ziplock bag as a legit snack all day long at the desk.

* The Pies and Pints Potato Skins pizza was suggested and totally lived up to expectation.

By the way, drove by Kroger Field today and had all five senses hit at 100%

Shorts:

- Always tough to follow MattsCats but YOLO.

- Wife’s at Barbie. Daughter remarkably went down somewhat easily. Sitting on my deck with Blue listening to my Autumnal “Home Mix” sipping a Bumbu Rum. If you’re looking for an inexpensive vanilla-banana low-proof softie, not a bad call.

- Remember when Costanza took off his shirt to take a **** then forgot to put it back on when he reentered the festivities? 😂

- Would you rather be described as:

a) A real one
b) A different breed
c Built different

- R Kelly is a truly evil POS but I’ll still sing along with “I Believe I Can Fly” whenever I hear it.

- Some ELITE young guards, a couple veteran hoopers and a stable of upside modern 5s. There will be no cross words for my ***** Bus friends this fall but I’m inching toward pumped, with stoked a real possibility by October.

- “Guess you could say it’s been a hard life
Used to have me a Christian wife.
Lost her like a pocket knife.
Rolling down the bank”

Ian Noe - what a talent. He’s in Louisville soon. Get your tickets.

- Toddler parenthood is considering leaving everything behind, changing your name and running for the boarder one minute, then sitting with your kid in your arms reading a book never more content in your life the next. Speaking of, our new neighbors invited us to their grandkid’s 1st birthday Saturday. Ended with my daughter having a monumental fit as we tried to remove her from the birthday gift car she commandeered. As this is happening, I look over and my golden retriever had broken into the house and was laying on their couch. I’m 44, man, getting ready to do this **** all over again in February. It’s madness.

- It’s almost bourbon and Oktoberfest season. My views on August have softened the past few year. Easier to look at it as a bridge than a last stand. Plus, although it usually is a tough hang, it always is good for a few brilliant mornings and evenings - not to mention a little nostalgia.

I don't mean to go potential UKO here but the bullpen is a major issue IMO.

Games Played
1.
Díaz • CIN 50
Farmer • CIN 50
Gibaut • CIN 50
Scott • MIA 50

5.
Doval • SFG 49
Milner • MIL 49
Rogers • SFG 49
Young • CIN 49

I think David Bell has done as good as job as could be navigating them to 59-49. But none of these guys have the historic pedigree to believe they can hang on for 2 more months. Moll is a nice addition but continuing to trot AAAA guys to have to eat innings is going to kill them.

Also back to back potential long bullpen games last night and tonight with no off day until next Thursday could see this spiral out of control quick.

Hopefully Lively can find the strike zone and get through 5

Old fashioned *** whooping for sure.

Cubs seem to do this when they win. Outscored the opponents by a lot on the year despite only being a few games above .500.

The Reds are better than the Cubs, so I'm going enjoy this one. And yes, they do that often, but much more here lately. They're coming around.

-R. Kelly made some jams. Sucks he was a ********.

-Yeah, effing toddlers. If only they could tell you what is actually wrong so you could try to help them. Instead... tantrums over the wrong color bowl or cup. Or whatever else is upsetting them in that moment.

Congrats on the sex, @wcc31! For real... how exciting!!! 😍

Did not know, Morganna the Kissing Bandit was from Louisville.

Her on-field career began in August, 1969 when she rushed onto the field at Crosley Field, Cincinnati and kissed Reds player Pete Rose. She was prompted by a friend who "dirty-double-dared me to do it. Where I'm from, you don't turn down a dirty-double-dare... at least, not when you're a teenager." Rose reacted with "terrible language" but the next night he tracked her down "to the local nightspot where I was appearing and apologized with a bunch of roses." She obtained the nickname "the Kissing Bandit" from a Cincinnati sportswriter who announced her arrival with the headline: "Bandit steals kiss from Pete Rose."

Saw her running out of the Brass *** and down Monmouth Street in Newport exactly like this as a ute.

On the Border - Nicholasville road..free unlimited wings and quarter beers. Was great until the ABC shut it down.
TGIFriday's South Park bartenders were legendary. $2 LIT's on Tuesday, and they served mine in a GD pilsner glass. Hammered before I ever hit a $10 tab.

They got the same generous pour when they came up the block to us.

12 Play by R. Kelly is a masterpiece of the mid-90s.

Bo Lanter (Tod Lanter’s dad, for the young ones in here) hits the Beaumont Y every day and holds court with the ladies of a certain age at the pool. Easy to see where Tod gets it.

Ivisic looks like a cheat code on NBA where you could stretch out their limbs and make them dance.

We spent 6+ hours just going through Georgia on the last Florida road trip, with minimal stops. I can’t imagine trying to drive through the entirety of Florida with kids.

That was fantastic for sure, maybe the only thing Mayweather and I have in common is that neither one of us have read any Harry Potter.
