Question for @PTI (pti) because apparently the Angels are really going to try to re-sign Ohtani:

You're the GM of the Reds. Ohtani says he wants to play for you but he'll only sign a 10-year contract with a no trade clause. What's your number you're offering him.

Now same question except you're the Dodgers.

Easy.

Reds = I wouldn’t even pick up the phone to call.

Dodgers = maybe 7 years at $35-40 million per, and I’d be happy to be outbid.

On average, a baseball player peaks at age 28, which happens to be Ohtanis age. Go figure. It’s certainly possible, but highly unlikely, that he’ll continue to produce at a high level even for more than 2-3 years. Look at the stat leaders in MLB — Freddie Freeman is a dinosaur at age 33. A total anomaly. Nearly every other great player is younger. And someone is about to sign this guy until he’s FORTY.

So whoever gets Ohtani for the next 10 years is very very likely getting a player who continues to get worse with each passing year. The Angels have a history of this, so they should know (Hamilton, Pujols, Trout).

Beckett Social Media post with me talking about the George Bush find and the grading results

-The National Sports Card Convention has been the biggest I have ever been to. Bubba Watson was here with his kid. It expanded to 600,000 sq ft and it’s not near enough space. We sold 9 MJ rookies in an hour stretch.

-Reds gave us some hope and that’s enough for now. It’s been such a fun few months. We could be in for a few good years.

-Brady(the real one) is excited to get back to UK. He misses Lexington. I’m envious of his opportunity.

-UT with over 200 violations and their fans celebrate the results. Enjoy that 0-25 stretch in 2019-2020, Cletus.

- Justa is an interesting character. Extreme SWVA might be the poorest, most disconnected area in North America. Salud. I went to school in Lexington, local academic types/yuppies liked to refer to that as SWVA, but that’s a mockery. They had no idea.

- Was working the booth and this gaggle of girls no older than 15 walked up and tried to order a bucket of claws. My natural response was to reward them for their audacity, but obviously could not. I looked at them with an incredulous eye and asked, you girls telling me you’re really 21? The one ***** responded, yeah old guy, how would you even know? 😐

- Drunkenly bought 50 Cent tickets to the show at Riverbend tomorrow, last weekend. Around the same time I publicly posted intimate personal details prior to 5:00 pm. Was on quite the pool inspired heater. In any event, I do not anticipate using these particular tickets in this particular weather. I can only imagine the scene. Instead made arrangements with an agreeable family to post up in a brewery and drink nice beers while our kids play giant jenga and ****. Anyone want some free 50 Cent tix?

- I do think I’m going to hit up Jethro Tull with the old man, however. Also, Dwight Yoakam is playing PNC next Friday night. Planning on that. He might be the best country artist of “my” generation, though I’m obviously younger. But him and Lyle, et al were hitting their stride right as I was coming of age. If I’m ranking top country albums of all time, across all subgenres, pretty sure “This Time” is going to be top 3.

- Didn’t mean to imply yesterday I don’t like Jason. Obviously I do. You just need to understand my perspective. I saw him with the Truckers probably 20 plus times when I was in school. My college/law school career lined up precisely with that run. Hell they played in my fraternity basement in 2003. I provided ice bong rips to them all. The bassist tried to f**k my roommates girlfriend. I just like that earlier Trucker music, before they got big and guys like PTI(pti) got into them. They were incredible in the early oughts. The stuff since he got sober just doesn’t resonate with me, but that’s cool. Different strokes. He’s still obviously the same man, an uber talented and brilliant man. Just wish he’d quit sounding like a *****.

- My bird game is on point. The thistle feeder has been going for years, I will see a dozen gold finches on it at one time. Beautiful animals. I have multiple other feeding implements obviously, but I’ll mention the suet plug feeder I added recently. Incredible addition. Highly recommend. Every type of finch, plus woodpeckers, jays and mockingbirds.

- the mockingbird may be the most sentient being of us all.

To be fair, I personally only Iived in SWVa for about 10 yrs, moved to central Va after that. The pharmacy school is my old elementary/middle school. But the old man used to bring his teams to Claiborne’s FB camps and I was always along. Rode on Bowie’s shoulders as he was rehab running around the old practice fields one sumner. Fell in love and knew UK was were I was going.

98% of fam still in SWVa, family reunion at breaks every yr. It’s a completely diff world back yonder.

Dwight. October 2021. A show that had originally been scheduled for early 2020 but had been put off a couple times because of Covid.

A top country song of all time.

Who was it that said country music videos sucked? This guy could impregnate any of your wives at the drop of a hat.

Country music starts with Geoege Jones, after that lots of 1a's, then the rest of the wannabees and flunkies. Truth!

Saw on social last night that Childers teamed up with gay author Silas House, Kentuckian that also lived in KW, it’s not me I swear. But House’s book Southermost is really good and takes place half in KY and half in KW.

Great read if you’re looking for something.

It is a minute clip against God knows what kind of competition but that guy looks like exactly what we need (and then some). If we go from Oscar sucking the oxygen out of the entire offense to some sort of Croatian unicorn, Bradshaw, and Tre Mitchell who can all space the floor, pass, and dribble -- wowza.

We might get more threes made from our frontcourt next year than entire teams did in years past. Sign me up.

Pass the Hype Pipe. I'm ready for some ridiculous optimism.

Eh. Maybe this is Cal's third act. He is a far better coach and program leader than he's shown the last fiveish years. I don't think the game has passed him by. I think he just got fat and lazy.

If he's going to start innovating again, I'm here for it. If he's going to keep up with the BASKETBALL BENNY! DON'T KNOW HAVEN'T SEEN HIM! HEY-YO!!!! routine, he can take his million a year at the end of this year and head on to wherever.

I don't know why but I think we are all going to be very pleasantly surprised.
