Heading to St. Louis today for the U.S. Youth Soccer Midwest Regional Championships - our “reward” for my kid winning state. Playing teams from Wisconsin, Missouri and Illinois. Should be fun and hopefully we’re competitive. But maybe not so competitive that we have to do this again in Orlando in July.
Good luck. I've reffed the Regionals several times, and it's a really fun tournament. The opening ceremony is always pretty cool. If you want to see some high-quality play, try to check out the U-19 boys and/or girls games.

Candidly, KY teams tend to struggle at Regionals. The talent disparity in other states is high. And getting slotted in a group with Missouri and Illinois is a pretty tough draw.

Despite the doom and gloom, I'm sure it'll be amazing.

The porthole windows were rated for 1500 feet. They were going to 4000. I'm sorry, I just don't have an ounce of sympathy for people who paid money to voluntarily get in a death trap. They had all the resources in the world to do their homework and make sure the submersible was safe, and they saw this jalopy and still got in? C'mon man. This contraption was the under-the-sea equivalent of a 1997 Chevy Cavalier with bald tires.

I get what you're saying but did they really know how unreliable it was? I'm sure it was marketed as a safe, wonderful experience. And the teenager almost assuredly did not make a truly informed decision on what he was getting into.

Assuming it collapsed immediately on the first day, they got the easy way out. It could have been much worse. Imagine:
  • Power goes out the first day
  • Vessel sinks to the bottom at a vertical angle (as opposed to horizontal)
  • 6 men piled on top of each other in pitch black in a five foot diameter tube
  • Maybe they are able to get where they can all stand up, but now they are just standing there facing each other
  • No hope of being saved
It would literally make you go mad.

They may not have known by looking at it, but it seems nuts that people with that level of resource wouldn't have some underling make *sure* it was safe. I don't have billionaire money and reach and if I were going to go to the bottom of the OCEAN I'd be researching everything possible to make sure the vehicle getting me there was top of the line and rated beyond the pressures of going that far below the surface. The teenager I'd agree didn't have that level of understanding (and honestly I keep thinking of him as a little older, which is my bad).

and then deciding who you had to "remove from the situation" to try and salvage as much oxygen as possible...

It's not like this was the first time it's been down to see the wreckage. I'd assume it was safe had there been several hundred trips.

Plus, the one CEO on there is a daredevil who has several world records for flights and things like that. Dudehad some serious hubris.

Yeah, them all exploding to death is actually best case scenario. Which is a crazy thought but true. I don’t think people in general ever really analyze how dangerous anything is. Sure, it sounds insane to normal poors like us, but if you’re a billionaire, you probably look past the danger of things bc you just think, “well if it costs this much and normal people can’t afford it, I’m sure it’s safe”. I mean people ride carnival rides that are under the supervision of sex offenders. We all do stupid ****, just stupid **** within our tax bracket.

The LAWERO balls can chime in but this waiver seemed to pretty much lead the passenger to the belief that they were pretty likely to die.

As was discussed in the SB Text Thread, its time for the national media to move fully into the story about the Stephen F Austin Bowling Affair. This is the only story out there that transcends political affiliation. We need this.

Already 3 pretty big trades before the NBA draft with plenty more coming from the sounds of it.

Quite a few opt outs too so FA will create a buzz.

Anything to get me thru the summer!

I don't think Brandon Miller will necessarily be a bust, but I think he'll be a disappointment relative to his draft position. I would take Scoot or either Thompson twin over him. Nobody could guard Miller in college, but everyone will be his size in the pros.

I can see this, but also think the idea of what Scoot is, is starting to get out of hand too. Derrick Rose or Russell Westbrook?

I know it’s fun to clown on Westbrook in 2023, but his first few years that guy was unreal and Derrick Rose was basically unguardable so any comps to him are just set up for failure.

If Miller goes to Portland that is the best spot for him with the players they have and the idea they’re 1.23 is possibly Noah Clowney a familiar face for both of them to be together there. That could help him being more impactful.

I certainly don't think any of those people "deserved" to die. I also know that they shouldn't be expected to fully understand exactly the science and engineering behind how the submersible was constructed.

However, if you are going to venture to do something as unique as this, you should also do some rudimentary research about the risks involved. The fact that there seemed to be no real understanding of how many dives a vessel made of Carbon Fiber and Titanium into that level of intense pressure before causing fatigue/failure, would be enough for most people to avoid doing it.

This makes it even worse. The implosion was indeed the best way to go.

I mean Draymond can't opt out without knowing he can get as much plus more than he is getting now? Or is he getting bad advice? Or does he think that highly of himself? Who would give him an equivalent contract of what he has now?

So as long as you have someone the same size as your opponent, they won't score....cool!
No dipshit, I just don't think he's as likely to dominate. Toppin shut him down for a half. He'll be seeing guys a lot better than Toppin on a nightly basis.

Close friend of mine was CO of a nuke sub, Phd and 2 masters in this field. One of smartest guys I've ever known. Said that they lost contact as it was on it's way down, VERY likely imploded blasting most everything into small pieces--including the people. And, because it was still 1,000s of feet above the ocean floor the bits are scattered over a wide area. Recovering anything down there is incredibly expensive and very few companies can do work at that depth. They gone. But you knew that already.

He said there are no review or certification requirements for these vessels. A peer of his recommended to the CEO to have the vessel and their plans checked out by specialists--he declined.

Just got back from 7 weeks traveling the Southwest, 11 National Parks in TX, CO, AZ, NM, Utah along with Sedona, Colorado mountains, and several other places. Huge bucket list trip that exceeded any expectations I had. Nothing short of amazing. I've traveled quite a bit over my 60+ years and those locations matched or exceeded anything I've ever seen.

Just go, make it happen--you'll be glad you did.

Cal needs to get the F out. He's ruining decades of my UK basketball enjoyment.

Moving back to Franklin, TN as all of my kids are converging there. Will be good to settle down.

Peace to all. Enjoy the ride.

Not even trying to be mean guy, but why do any of us actually care about these five people? We didn’t know them before and we won’t care about them in a week.

It’s not a “tragedy”, just like dying on Everest isn’t a tragedy. You put yourself in a horrible position and it went south.

1000s of people are dying from a million different things every day but we don’t care about that.

Just find it interesting how into this everyone is.

Also, is there something we’re being given the Kansas City Shuffle to not pay attention to something else?

Meh, if you’re into it I guess. I honestly just don’t really gaf about those people. The most likely thing to happen, happened. Big whoop I say.

And the fact people are trashing the one billionaires step son is hilarious. They’ve never heard of this kid and now they’re mad at him and calling him names.

He may have not even liked his step dad, it’s not his actual dad. The good news is he can buy Blink 182 now.

In the same respect, I don’t follow people on social media I don’t know besides a couple bodybuilders and one is a chick. Why would I? I don’t care what Chad Johnson has to say on a Tuesday morning .
