Oh there is gun violence in American cities? Well then I guess we shouldn't do anything about gun violence.

Gun violence....please define that. Is that the same as car violence, meth violence, fentanyl violence, subway pushing people violence?

Love the liberal viewpoints....shallow, without merit, and they always refuse to address an issue until it fits their narrative. Weak minded, essentially.

-gonna be in the river city this weekend for forecastle. Dropping off the girls ...you'd have to pay me to do a weekend festival. Wife and I will be wandering around. Need lunch and dinner recs. Wouldn't object to a meet up w/ my Louisville internet friends...staying airb&b in some recently gentrified area.

Three laws were already broken. Minor in possession of a handgun, gun on school property, and murder. 'More laws!' doesn't work. Our approach to mental illness in this country is shameful, our justice system has a sliding scale based on wealth, and we will gladly spend hundreds of bilions on foreign wars while things like this occur domestically.

Get these things in order before adding another worthless law.

Insurance companies do not want to cover the cost to really ramp up mental illness help.

they do not even know where to begin a good guesstimate on policy costs to consumers because that would get out of control, and the consumers wouldn’t pay.

So “our” country’s approach has a hard time changing because as we see with Student loans, the irresponsible people will always ruin it for everyone, and everything has a cost.

Mental health is too big of a problem to solve. Guns are too much of a hot button issue to change. Republicans and Democrats can’t work together to do anything meaningful anymore.

This will continue, as it always does, with legitimate sadness, real outrage, fake outrage, and thoughts and prayers all around.

Just hope you and yours aren’t in the crosshairs where this happens next.

PS, I don’t have a good answer either. But I’m certain the standard course of action of doing nothing and tweeting isn’t helping.

It would be pretty cool if our elected officials would stop antagonizing each other and their fan bases and maybe get to work on figuring something out.

Unfortunately they’re all out there cutting wrestling style promo’s on Twitter in the hopes of getting re-elected forever.
The Democrat and Republican parties are domestic terrorists.

The ones that are most sad are the ones where they knew the shooter was a risk (ex: yea we got a tip 6 mo ago and didn’t do anything about it). Not an expert but those seem preventable.
So Marshall County KY? Seemingly the whole community knew the kid had a screw loose and was capable. Not to mention the warning signs leading up to the that shooting.

You can’t single the kid out anymore because that’s picking on him and pushing him in the same direction.

- capitol punishment is a policy. add in an express lane for these type situations. No reason in the world this guy gets to sit in jail and delay court for a year or two just to cop an insanity plea and get medical attention the govt pays for.

Yeah, this is false for the most part. Insurance carriers can put a premium on most things based on actuarial experience. Most corporate sponsored insurance covers mental health in some fashion.

Well they said he walked in on his 18th birthday and legally purchased both assault rifles in the great state of Texas so we're down to 2 laws broken.

I'd like to least LOOK INTO changing how deranged Americans can acquire weapons that efficiently kill so many people. You disagree because we spend billions on foreign wars and believe the DOJ favors wealthy people. Makes sense. Rational.
I'd like to look into it as well. That is part of the reason I think our approach to mental health is so pathetic.

I just also happen to believe fundamental shortcomings in our society are worth fixing. Sort of like repairing the leaky roof before you replace the water damaged floors.

Can we start by putting a police officer in every school?
I don't know of any other suggestions that will actually work to address the problem.
Per a neighboring school system front office worker, the Superintendent of Daviess County schools just decided against this, presumably over budget issues. I’d hate to be in his shoes if something happens here.

We have cops all over the place, can we not afford to stick ONE in each school? I’m guessing that a police car parked right outside the front entrance would provide at least a tiny bit of deterrence. I mean, it’s something, and definitely better than nothing at all.

I agree as I'm as pro 2A as anyone. A possible compromise could be make it to where someone has to be 21 to buy anything other than a hunting rifle.

If 19 to 20 year olds want to legally shoot semi-automatic/automatic guns, they can join the military.

Having said that, I'm not so naïve to think these ****-birds won't be able to get their hands on illegal weapons if laws are changed. Since most criminals run in packs, I'm sure they can get a 21 year old buddy to buy them an AR/AK.

Im aware. I have several family members that have or are going through it and believe me I’m not sharing my experience, but what I’ve been told insurance companies are telling. Most things need or should be checked/qualified with your insurance provider and if it isn’t covered, lol, good luck with that cost!

Maybe it’s off to a degree, but I can attest that it is an issue whether you believe it or not.

Jefferson county has also refused police in every school. The ky state legislature just passed a law, that you must have an officer in every school. The only exception is if you can't afford it for budget reasons. But that has to be approved by the state.

States can afford it now more than ever. There are still BILLIONS of unspent stimulus money sent to schools during COVID.

The gun lust in American society is truly sickening.

Also, 90% of the people who participate in this thread could come up with a reasonable way to find some solutions that would hopefully lead to prevention of this ********.

Unfortunately, 10% of clowns in this thread are in step with those idiots who make it completely impossible for our government to actually pursue anything of value in this process.

-something should be done. again...looking for specific policy ideas.

-I am being sincere.
I don't know specific policy ideas, but even universal background checks and waiting periods seem like a nice starting off point that even members of both sides of the aisle could support.

I can go to the city convention center every other month at the "Gun Show" and buy a weapon- which seems to be kind of too easy. I realize there is an entire economy behind guns. If eliminating even military type weapons isnt even an option- I would imagine that making the period between a purchase, and obtaining it may help.

Will it prevent all mass shootings- no. We know that- and i think we all know its going to be extremely difficult to find a realistic way to do that since we've already reached a tipping point with guns in society. Will it maybe prevent some mass shootings- i'd say probably so. It certainly isnt something that would anger even responsible gun owners/ firearm supporters.

Lunatics were locked down in their basements for 2 solid years without medical supervision… I expect there’s a bunch of busted minds out there with access to guns and nothing to lose.

the NYC subways are a zombie apocalypse allowing psychopaths sleep on the streets instead of scooping them up and incarcerating them until they are clean, sober and not a danger to themselves or the public.

it’s primarily a mental health issue, not a gun issue.
