Allen, Brooks (he ain’t coming back, guys), TyTy, Hopkins, Davion, Grady, are all gone for certain. That’s 6. Oscar will likely bounce and who knows about Wheeler.

So, it’s possible that 8 off this squad are outta here. I mean, that’s not hyperbole. That’s a reasonable number, right? This is ridiculous. You can’t build/develop anything like this. This program is a farce. . . and year in/year out, it’s the norm.

Rip the bandaid off NOW!
You forgot Sharpe.

Hopkins will be a better college basketball player than Collins. In fact, of all the potential returnees not named Oscar he might have had the most upside (I don't even consider Sharpe a potential returner). He's a really interesting college 4...hell, he would play the 4 in the league. None of his talents were maximized at the 3 and it was always a disservice to him to play there.

Whatevs, not even HOFCJVC can steal my joy today.

Doesn’t matter what Cal thinks of Mags and Tucker, he has a lifetime contract. He can pretend to ignore the criticism and take veiled shots at them during press conferences where he controls the questioning.

I mean he did play Mintz, Brooks, Toppin, and Grady A LOT this past season. None of those guys are future NBA players. All of them had significant returning experience. He also had some talented Freshmen and the NPOY. Should’ve been a Final Four team.
He had 2 starters back from a 9-16 team that lost 3 freshman to the draft. That team only had 1 guy with UK experience(Brooks).

You can't consistently be at the elite level when you're replacing 6-8 guys every year. That's just not sustainable. As we've seen.

His style of play and in game antics are annoying but his undoing is roster management.

Agree, but I think ^^, especially his in game antics and general inconsistent sub patterns & playing time allotment (that make zero sense) play a role in these dudes wanting to GTFO of here.

He's a spaz psychotic lunatic. He's not "cool" coach anymore. It can't be fun playing for that.

The key to a national championship is pretty simple all you need is:

Two top 20 recruits to return for the sophomore season

A once in a generation #1 NBA draft pick athletic freak

The #2 NBA draft pick

A McDonalds All American point guard

One of the best Kentucky High School basketball players this century to stay 4 years and come off the bench as a senior.

I think Hopkins will be a beast of a college player in time. If he were at, say, Kansas...he'd just develop nicely and by year 2-3 be an All Conference type dude, most likely.

So GD annoying. Dude should go to Houston.

Welp, this + Brooks likely gone at least opens the floor for my guy Toppin to finally be THE guy at his spot...hopefully he sticks around.

I generally agree but our roster is so damn lopsided that it was necessary to shed a 4-man or two so we don’t end up with seeing guys like Toppin/Livingston at the 3.

Our roster should be:

Two posts
Two 4s
Everyone else guards

Listen I get it about not having enough coverage of The Masters but in 1986 we joined Jack on the back second 9 and we liked it.

At this point, the best I can hope for is that that idiot doesn't get desperate and start to flagrantly cheat, and land us on fvcking probation.

That would be a fitting end to this "administration"

Yeah, well we'll see if he loads up that way...

...we're a guard (or 3) short pretty much every year.

Wheeler, CJ, Wallace. Need 3 more, ideally - and that's if none of those 3 are hurt at all, which they most certainly will be.

Livingston is a prototype modern 4 - plus he can shoot a bit and is tough.

I want to see what happens if Toppin gets a consistent 25 minutes too.

5- Oscar/Collins/Ware
4- Toppin/Livingston
Guards- Wallace, Fredrick, Wheeler

Need to add 3 more guards, two need to be 6’4” plus.

Called the Hopkins UK career arc immediately after the BW game where he shined.

A huge mismatch nightmare as a college 4, but our dumbass HOF coach would play him out of position all season as a 3, likely show glimpses enough to tantalize us, inconsistent PT -- then bolt.

Just another gut punch.

Eff this.

Meanwhile Griffin and Keels got plenty of rope.
